So we have to wait another week to know who the new drummer is?

Spoiler alert: It's not Minnemann.

Meg White was in the running as well.

I heard Meg White touched JLB's flat iron and was kicked out of the audition.

Weird, he has practically passed on his flat iron to Mike Mangini. Hey, maybe that means that Mike is the new drummer?

I wonder if the band decided to delay this (i assume) trailer or something, in order to release it with a press release, including artwork and release date...

So is this FINALLY going to be the first official DVD version of Metropolis as originally recorded, without any cut-outs; extended jams; Charlie Freakin' Dominici or an orchestra?? Really? Finally? I'd buy it just for that and watching MM play it.

Yes.  That is why I  :\ at anyone who says Metropolis shouldn't be included.  It was considered their definitive live song for a long time (and still might be, for all I know), and for us to go this long without getting it in full with just the five playing on it on an official live DVD/Blu-Ray seems goofy, but better late than never, right? :)

The Letter M

DVD, yes, but audio, I'm pretty sure the LATM version is pretty close to the studio version, is it not? Other than the obvious segue at the end into "A Fortune In Lies".

-Marc.

Mladen

Except that there will be a jam in there somewhere, if I recall correctly how they played it on this tour. Of course, I don't mind having my favorite Dream Theater song on another DVD.  ;D

wasteland

Well, I'll never get tired of reminding you people that this Metropolis will come with an exceptional little jam towards the end, so some purist might still not count it as "ultimate", an opinion that I am lucky enough not to share. :)

Dream Team

So anyway, I got to thinking about the setlist for this thing and was about to write some complaints but after thinking about it some more I realize there isn't much to complain about. Of the songs not yet on an official DVD, there are sound reasons for omitting most of them:

The Count of Tuscany & A Nightmare to Remember: too long to include in the set
The Shattered Fortress & The Best of Times: very much "Portnoy" songs
A Rite of Passage & Wither: pretty underwhelming songs on the whole that few will miss
Repentance & Honor thy Father: see point 2
Prophets of War, Never Enough, You Not Me, Burning My Soul: see point 3
Misunderstood: more of an "album" track than a live must-see
Space-Dye Vest & Take Away My Pain: either of these could have been included instead of TSM or WFS
The Mirror & Lie: again, could have been included instead of the SDOIT tracks

These are on a Bootleg DVD only:
The Glass Prison: another Portnoy song
The Great Debate: could have been included instead of TDEN or WIMH/TTTSTA
Hell's Kitchen: they used the time for a drum solo instead

So basically, there are only 4 songs without a proper DVD version that I would have preferred over TDEN or WIMH/TTTSTA - or they could have been played just 1 of the nights instead of TSCO or Surrounded both nights. I wouldn't have minded another Erotomania/Voices, Learning to Live, or A Change of Seasons but they are all on the Live Scenes DVD so I'll have to live with that.
