I was going to PM, but the inbox is full.
I'd be interested in one of those test pressings if any are still available. I'm just wondering about price and cost of shipping to Halifax, Canada.

All pm's have been deleted because I was out of space.  if we have already spoken and you paid then I should have all your info via email but if you are paranoid and want to double check them pm me your email address so i can double check

"Triggered" snare, huh?  Like on Greatest Hit?
Greatest Hit doesn't feature the triggered snare.

Huh.  I remember reading somewhere that it was.  Whatever was done to it, the reverb on the snare is basically removed.

dream416

Just grabbed one of the test pressings as well. My wife is just shaking her head wonder why i need this too, since i already have the swirl version.
I said you just don't understand....

Aquiesence

I was to late to discover this release so I missed the limited "Swirl" edition.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is the "white vinyl" edition official?
I can only find info about the limited "swirl" and the black vinyl edition on the net.

TheGreatPretender

I don't really dig how the swirl looks. I'm happier with classic black vinyl.

I wrote to Brookvale records, asking if it is legit:

"Yes it is - white is the European color"

MP re-recorded drums for all the I&W songs on Greatest Hit. (too bad they didn't just do the whole record!)

got my swirl vinyl in the mail the other day — stunning!

goo-goo

Mike didnt re-record the parts. Kevin Shirley replaced all the triggered snare with an untriggered drum sound.

This was my understanding - they just mixed out the triggered snare effect.

TheGreatPretender

Can anyone explain to me the whole triggered snare thing? I mean, I can hear the difference in sound, but what exactly is a triggered snare and how does it work?

Can anyone explain to me the whole triggered snare thing? I mean, I can hear the difference in sound, but what exactly is a triggered snare and how does it work?

When they recorded the drums, instead of having a microphone recording the real snare/bass sound from the studio, they have a little trigger pad on the drum that registers whenever the drum is hit, and it "triggers" a sound effect instead.
It's like playing a MIDI drumkit or a keyboard, where it's going to play the exact same pre-recorded drum sound every time. The snare/bass drum sound you hear on the original IaW is not a real drum; I believe it's from a drum machine. I think I have the original drum machine samples on my computer somewhere.

For the remixed version of the IaW songs, they replaced the old drum sound effect for a more modern and more realistic drum sound effect.

TheGreatPretender

So basically all it was was a pre-recorded drum sample? Geez, all this time, I thought triggered snare, was like, some different type of snare drum that's not in use anymore.

But yeah, I prefer the songs without it.

Excellent news, pre-ordered. Was beginning to think I'd have to give this LP a pass, but now i'm glad I waited!

Ahhh that's what it was.  I got it mixed up.

I like snare sounds with a "punch" to them.  The untriggered snare sounds weak to me.

Quarter_Cask

what source was used for this remaster?
i have the original pressing - can someone describe the difference (in sound)?
(sorry if these were asked/answered before)
thx

Meatrose

Oh, so the only difference between the white edition and the red & gold swirl edition is the color of the records? Good thing I bought both then, I guess.  ::)

yeah. it doesn't sound natural/organic...but it gave an idea on how the original drum without the triggered effect would of sound...I can't picture Images and Words without the triggered effect.

Aquiesence

Mine arrived today :-) As others before me have mentioned the cover does not look that great.
I don't know how it sounds compared to the original, I have not open it yet  :metal

WOW! Zepp, since you are the expert, could it be the bonus items bringing the auction price up?

There is no way that anyone that would spend that much on DT would possibly think that is an original pressing from the 90s, right?

EDIT: As I'm looking, these are averaging over 100 bucks per auction! Geez, I guess people really wanted this. I feel bad for those who didn't get it in time. Soooo glad that I put in my order the second day it was available. I wonder if the test press will be worth anything?

BTW, I'm #374.

First of all this one was on of the first to be listed on eBay for auctions. Usually the first one gets much attention.

Those Japanese singles are not that rare and I don't think that was the reason for the price.
Probably without them the price would be $220, at least, maybe even $250.

There are at least two more sealed copies that were sold as "buy it now" for $200 the same day or a day before.

Also one of the cheap ones had a seam slip (collector's hate seam splits) thus the low price of $102.

The other were opened not sealed plus the seller probably charged too much for oversea shipping so he "lost" many willing bidders from EU there.

I know too much details because I am bidding on some of them  :yarr

I am trying to get one of those since I missed the original sale but those prices are too much for me. I hope I will get a copy at a better price later maybe.

There are 3 more auctions running now:
$103,00: https://www.ebay.com/itm/261173539109
$67.60: https://www.ebay.com/itm/230936328788
$57,00: https://www.ebay.com/itm/111016734454

That copy linked above was the first auction on eBay with international shipping at least and maybe even the first one overall.

There were sealed ones for $99 Buy it Now + Best Offer as well on the same day (Feb 22nd).
The seller was Brookvale Records, apparently. ;) I guess those were leftovers or cancelled orders or something like that.

Really ? Bah I missed those! I only found a couple $199.00 both were sold the same day I think but nothing below $150.00 ...

Someone screwed up on the customs slip, quoting a daftly high value.

Not only were we positively gouged for posting to the UK - and elsewhere in Europe - we now have £17.68 worth of additional fees to pay.

Thanks, Brookvale.

Is it just me, or is it really shady for them to say that this version is limited to 500, and that it will go to the first 500 people who pre-order, yet somehow they still have some extras to sell on eBay at a super jacked up price?  Either they made more than 500 of these, which means the total run count they gave was incorrect, or they held a few back for themselves, which means it's not actually true to say that they go to the first 500 people who pre-ordered.

After seeing this I'm gonna be pretty pissed if I don't end up getting my red/gold version.  Mine still hasn't been delivered, and my tracking info shows no action on it at all.  And I know that there are people who ordered after I did who get the red/gold version, so I definitely got my order in on time.  I mean, I understand that shit happens and that the post office isn't perfect, so if it just got lost in the mail, there's nothing they can really do about that, but I contacted them about the missing package on February 20th, and this link shows red/gold versions being sold on February 22nd, which means they were still selling them for a higher price while knowing that there was still an issue with some of the originals being delivered.  I hope they still have a few left to use as replacements if mine never shows up...

Honestly, while the actual master sounds good, almost no work seems to have gone into these records at all, either in terms of packaging, getting information out, customer service, or any of that. Plus, this was balls expensive compared to other sets that give you way more value on the dollar.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if EtR kept a few back for themselves, just like the fact there's European white gatefold was held back. While I appreciate DT on Vinyl, I highly doubt I will be buying their next release, unless it's cheaper and they can actually show that there's more quality control going into it this time.

FYI, while mine arrived, I never received tracking info either.
