Purple artwork with reflective majesty logo now the profile image for DT fb page
And I like it.

Lucien

The feel of the possible album cover just really turns me on. Dim, mysterious, vast....

GasparXR

I sarcastically suggested the the album title would be "Majesty". I wasn't TOO far off I don't think. :lol

The real majesty logo isn't that squished vertically, or that rounded, and it's not that symmetrical along the vertical axis either. Those bars are supposed to cross lower down. Also, the curves on the beam tails are way too sharp, and the serifs are nowhere near wide enough.

Maybe they're bringing themselves up to date. Apple and Microsoft have re-done their logos in recent years (MSFT more recently, though). Why not DT?

I think the logo looks fine.

That would actually be a much better name. It hints at something special without slapping you in the face and insisting it.

So it looks like my guess two years ago may not have been that far off;

I've seen it. I'm a fan of them on FB! I just don't see this image being anything official. I think it's just a temporary promo image until they have an album cover, because Hugh Syme wouldn't use the wrong Majesty logo, and it doesn't look like his style. It just looks like a quick (although nice) rendering to me.

"The wrong" logo? What?

I would think you're crazy if you weren't a graphic designer :lol I still don't think it looks that bad. I can see what your talking about, but maybe the logo has changed for a newer dt... (?)

Wow, the fact that people are this upset or annoyed with the self-titled aspect and logo blows my mind. Shouldn't we care about the music? I think the minimalist approach to their album title/potential artwork is refreshing. I for one can't wait for the new album.  :metal :metal

The internet has officially exploded. Look at how many people are on the forum.

This kinda feels like Falling Into Infinity all over again for me.  DT seems to be abandoning their winning formula of album titles/covers and going with a self-titled album and possibly just the majesty logo on the cover.  It's not my cup of tea, personally, although Queensrÿche's upcoming self-titled album with the tri-ryche front and center on the cover have grown on me.  So maybe I'll feel that way eventually with this DT album.

What is amazing is that as RC said in the video, when a song was being written, if a part felt good, it made it all the way to the final product.
This is great and far from the typical DT recording process, it excites me very much.

And people are saying that a name doesn't matter? It totally does, regardless of how indicative of the music it really is. This is part of a product people are going to be buying. the general consensus is that this is going to be the definitive album, and people will be throwing money at their monitors. If this isn't the most epic DT of all time, they could loose some credibility here.

That picture of the chocolate cake should be the album cover.

Or at least in the album booklet!  Not a lot of things make me :rollin  but that did.

I like the subtitle "Purple album", like weezer's self titled color albums.  Or we can call it DT12 as I have read.

This seems like a statement album for them, like "this is who we are" with all of the elements that make up the band.

I didn't think the purple logo would be the cover, but looks like it might.  I like it.

KevShmev

I am not a big fan of having self-titled albums when they aren't your first album, but it is not that big of a deal to where pissing and moaning about it non-stop is worth it.  How good the music on it is is what ultimately matters.

Setebos

Well, I'm excited. Don't really care about the album being self-titled as long as the music is good -- and I see no indication why it shouldn't be.
Also I'm hungry for chocolate cake now. Thanks for that, DT :lol.

I'd argue don't set your expectations too high. wait until release and let the album do the talking.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Making a self-titled album at this point is a pretty ballsy and daring move, if you ask me. Good for them for being so ambitious. I like it!

Whatever can be said about the title and art (I'm uncertain myself, but I'm awaiting the actual art), I think the far more interesting part of this news was the video. Just from that, they all seem to be quite excited about the album (judging from the fact that Myung speaks), and what they've said about the recording process, where they are essentially recording things as they write them, sounds very interesting. I think the video is certainly a better basis on which to judge the new album than the album title and possible Majesty symbol are, and from the video things look very good.

And now I want some chocolate cake.

"While you were typing, 11 new replies have been posted" y'all are insane.

TRACKLIST.

I want to see the majesty of the titles of the songs and the song lengths, and hopefully we see one longer than 20:00.

Hopefully they don't have a song called Dream Theater, because if they do they'll be going Black Sabbath on us.

Black Sabbath, from Black Sabbath's album Black Sabbath!

Perpetual Change

Purple/Black logo looks night cluby.

I'm most exciting about the recording techniques. Sounds like the album will have a much more natural "live" feel which I think it really important. As much as I loved ADTOE, it had such a peicemeal vibe to it, regarding how it all sounded put together.

dparrott

I like how parts of the writing process ended up on the album.  I remember in Metallica's s/t documentary how Jaymz was composing a great riff and someone tripped his guitar cord and ruined the moment.  Those composition moments are very important.

That reminds me....Metallica's "black album" was their 5th, and look how popular that was!
