It's a disappointing question for one who isn't a guitar player and doesn't understand what the hell he's talking about.

The same as when JR talks about anything really.

I'm sorry, but that's really not true.
Yeah, it kinda is.  I hardly ever understand what the fuck he's talking about.

But I just smile and wave.

So what are you saying? Are you saying that Jordan Rudess is better with his fingers than he is with his mouth?

It's like when MM is going

" so i'm grouping my left side in 7s and my right side in 9s but doing triplets in 11 with my feet and matching up after 17 bars . "

All I hear is :

" you suck you suck you suck you suck you suck you suck - give up now "

Haha, nah. To me, that guy is a walking inspiration....  :hefdaddy

I love hearing guitar players talk about their EQ. So many metal players just turn the gain up and scoop out the mids. That's so boring, and makes the guitar sound indiscernable. So, I love hearing good metal guitar players talk about how they get their sounds.

I'd rather hear it in dumb speak though. Like, instead of saying, "I turned this up, and turned this down", I'd rather hear him say what exactly he's trying to achieve with that, like, "This way, it gets a much fuller sound," or "This way, it sounds a lot more crunchy and sharp," or "I was trying to go for a warmer, more organic tone" you know, stuff like that.

There was another video posted here (I think) where he goes into a little more detail about his amp setup and which amps deliver the tones/sounds he's trying to achieve.  For a non-guitar player such as myself, it was a really interesting watch - I just wish I could remember where it was.

I think the guys know that a large percentage of their fanbase is made up of musicians, and many of their fans are not.  I think they do a pretty good job of speaking to both audiences, although it's a little hard for me to tell since I am a musician and have some techinical knowledge.  When JP starts talking tech about his guitar rig, I can follow some of it even though I don't play guitar, just from what I've picked up over the years.  I'm never going to apply any of it, and I don't even follow a lot of it, but I still find it fascinating.  I just figure he's talking to guys who do understand it.

I don't expect them to dumb everything down; that wouldn't be fair to fans who actually want more technical detail.  I figure if you play -- keys, guitars, whatever -- then you can follow what they're saying.  If you don't play, well, some of it's gonna go over your head.

Yeah, you have to acknowledge that a good chunk of DT's consistent fanbase is comprised of people who admire and are, in a way, "studying" the playing of the band's respective members. I've met many JP and MP disciples in my day, and more than a few JM, JR, and JLB ones. Same for Mangenius.

He should totally do it! However, didn't he retire years ago from DT video making?

I hope he didn't have any problem with the band! I recall they were quite amused by the parody, if I remember correctly :)

John actually DID the Adam02 voice in one of Jordan's videos during the CiM tour (I think it was part of the bonuses for CiM?), so IMO the problem would not have been from the band.

He indeed came back last year, re-uploaded all his classic videos and made some new ones. I think this particular one is hillarious  :lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg6iF4XQJYI
