Has anyone else seen this?  I've listened to a few of the samples on Amazon.  What I listened to was kinda unrecognizable.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, the company which creates "beautiful lullaby versions of your favorite artists," has just released "Lullaby Versions Of Dream Theater" via Roma Music Group.

"Lullaby Versions Of Dream Theater" track listing:

01. A Nightmare To Remember
02. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
03. Wither
04. Pull Me Under
05. As I Am
06. These Walls
07. On The Backs Of Angels
08. The Dark Eternal Night
09. Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper
10. Under A Glass Moon
11. Forsaken
12. Panic Attack

I really don't see this having a market with DT fans. :lol

It's like that Metallica Christmas album. Someone just takes some free MIDIs, runs it all through the same music box / harp / strings combo, and releases it as a cheap cash-in. A lot of these are slowed down to the point of being barely recognizable, and they're all exactly the same arrangement relying on instrumentation to be "lullabies". Even knowing what songs they are, it takes me a bit to figure out what part it is.

Thanks for the link though. This is indeed a strange release!

So DT really decided to target the younger generations, isn't it?

I'm sure every little kid will sleep peacefully after knowing that his lullabies are called "A Nightmare To Remember", "The Dark Eternal Night" or "Panik Attack"

Gotta get 'em while they're young!

Listening to Panic Attack, I really think they should have actually put some thought into arranging the songs for the purpose, rather than just the novelty appeal of "here are some DT songs slowed down and run through different instruments". It's the kind of thing you'd listen to once for a laugh, then never actually listen to again.
Come on, the kind of person buying this doesn't have a hope of procreating and having a baby to use this on. :P

Scorpion

They all sound the same! Very soothing, sure, but also very boring.

There are actually a few companies that put this kind of stuff out.  One of them, not sure which one, was started by David Lee Roth's sister.  We received a compilation disc at my wife's baby shower about 6 years ago.  It was pretty interesting.  Lullabye "Seasons In The Abyss" was cool.  We've gotten a few of these (Pink Floyd, Green Day, Metallica, etc) for our daughter to listen to while taking naps or sleeping.

Some of them are really good.  Some really suck.  DT just doesn't really work with this concept, IMO.

wasteland

I want to hear the lullabye version of Wait For Sleep  :corn

Cool Chris

Neat. I have this Floyd CD for my kid. They are pretty faithful to the originals but I wish they would have been a little more daring in their song choices, but understand why they weren't. Nice CD to throw on for the kid when she needs music without having to resort to Barney or other annoying kiddie music.

Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Are you kidding?  I was immediately looking into buying it for my daughter when I saw the thread title. :lol

Well there ya go then! Maybe it won't do so badly after all.

All of this.  It's definitely an interesting release, but the execution is nothing short of awful.

I'm highly disappointed that the album cover isn't a teddy bear John Pertucci.

They chose those songs, when they have loads.that would suit the Lullabye feel. Funny

Nah, you're probably right.  I love the idea but the samples are worse than underwhelming.  It's like the songs have all been neutered to some unidentifiable musical norm.  If they stayed close to the originals and did a halfway respectable job I'd be all over the release.

Yeah, As I Am? When you could have done something more suited to the style, like Solitary Shell

I read ANTR and busted out laughing. Are they subliminally trying to get kids to not like DT.

This tracklisting is quite horrible indeed. C'mon, Wait for Sleep, Solitary Shell, The Silent Man, Through Her Eyes are all much better opinions.

I'm listening to the samples and trying to identify the songs without looking and I'm having trouble, lol.

I played some for my 9-year old daughter.  She thought it was awful and asked to listen to Bridges In The Sky.

You succeed as a parent.

Also, those tracks aren't even recognizable to their DT counterparts o_o

How come they didn't add Wait for Sleep for a Lullaby album? :justjen

This is awful. OK, take the midi files and change the instruments but at least choose a good VST to make it sound good. These are the basic MIDI sounds. I could make it better. In fact, I will. Which one would you suggest?

"Wait For Sleep" seems the obvious choice, so go with that and let us know when you've completed it!

Also, I'd suggest "Anna Lee" or "Hollow Years", and perhaps "The Answer Lies Within" and "This Is The Life".
