Which one do you prefer? The classic or your favourite part of the epic sequel (comparing a song to an album isn't fair)?

My favourite on Scenes is probably Finally Free, but I would still pick The Miracle and the Sleeper. It sums up pretty well everything that is great with Dream Theater.

Metropolis Pt 1.

SFAM is my 2nd favourite DT album just behind SDOIT, but individually none of the songs are really top 10 or maybe top 20 for me. The album is much greater than the sum of its parts. I'd definitely choose the whole of Metropolis pt 2 over Metropolis pt 1, but as stated, it's obviously not fair to compare a single song to a whole album.

I'm a little colder than most to both Metropoles - like them alright, just don't get the fuss - but Fatal Tragedy is an absolutely cracking song. Top ten, any day.

Metropolis Pt. 1. I love the cohesiveness and consistency of Scenes but the songs on that album don't stand out individually that much.

Metropolis over The Dance of Eternity just by a hair, for the sheer fact that it has vocals. But the thing is, all the little melodic motifs in Metropolis 1 that get brought up in songs on Metropolis 2, if it wasn't for SFAM, those motifs wouldn't mean that much in Metropolis 1. So the reason why I like Metropolis 1 so much is BECAUSE of SFAM, which means if songs like Dance of Eternity didn't exist, Metropolis probably wouldn't be my favorite. It's a weird symbiosis.

Same here. Metropolis is my favourite song ever, so it was never going to be much of a contest    But BTL doesn't even make my top 20 either. As has been mentioned, Scenes as a whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.
