So I listened to The Resurrection of Ernie and I was a little unimpressed. The solo section was quite cool, but the rest of the song wasn't really that memorable. JMX was great, though.

Raw Dog is probably the only DT song I have never heard.

So you've heard "Cry For Freedom", "The School Song", "Resurrection Of Ernie", "Don't Look Past Me", "To Live Forever", "Eve", "Raise The Knife", "Speak To Me", "Cover My Eyes", "Where Are You Now?" and "The Way It Used To Be"? :tup

-Marc.

What the hell are those? Are they actually DT songs, or some Majesty stuff that doesn't count? I've never heard of those in all of my time here!

All three are on Ytsejam records releases.  "Cry for Freedom" and "The School Song" are both on the Majesty Demos and "Resurrection of Ernie" is on When Dream and Day Unite demos.

JMX is great on all the Majesty/WDADU stuff mostly because he has that Geddy Lee-esque lead-bass sound that they had back in the day. It's a shame he doesn't play like that/they don't write like that much anymore!

Actually, I believe of those three, CFF and ROE were done when the band was called Dream Theater, and are on the WDADU Demos from YtseJam Records. And as for TSS and the original version of CFF, I listen to them as part of my Majesty Demos playlist on my iPod.

The Presence of Frenemies

I listened to Raw Dog once or twice. I didn't see any reason to hate it, really, but I wasn't really floored by how great it was either. I'm not sure what would be so "special" about performing it. There are so many other "rarities" that would serve better function, like the Majesty stuff, Don't Look Past Me, The Way It Used To Be, Space-Dye Vest (though I don't like it), etc. Just as rare, more historically significant, and better material--and thus more "special."

Oh, I would absolutely love for one of those (other than Majesty stuff) to be pulled out. I'm dying to hear Don't Look Past Me live, but I'm not sure if it would really suit James' voice now.

@ProgSnob: No Sleep Since Brooklyn?  :D

That and the three Instrumental demos CDs, though I do realize Instrumental was paired with NSSB on the version I have.

I just wanted to note that you put my posting habits to shame!  :lol

I've been here since 2009, and in less than a year, you (among many other people) have zoomed past my post count.

I'm glad we have such passionate music fans here!

If I have my chronology correct CFF, RoE and The School Song were written prior to the name change.  CFF and RoE were on the 1987 Instrumental Demos and TSS was obviously written at Berkelee.

^ No, but I think it really captures the essence of the game in the first section after the "djent" beginning (which is relatively annoying, and the repetition at the end of the song is awful. I love everything in between).
The beginning of the song is the only part I like.

So, what was the announcement about the update and how did I miss it? Maybe it doesn't matter anymore, since no update ever happened.   :P

Bosk won. And he knows it  :lol

Anyway, maybe the guys at OtE know about us and want to have fun at our faboyish reactions!

a little update on the FB page:
We need to coordinate any releases with the band so we can't say TOO much but rest assured, we'll have some treats for you guys soon! We're very excited to release a trailer and some behind the scenes looks. Here's what we CAN say: The DVD & Bluray will be released this year with LOTS of bonus features and undoubtedly will be one of the best live Dream Theater experiences yet! We have been finishing everything up and both us and the band are really happy with how everything turned out... you guys are going to LOVE this! Promise we'll keep you updated and give you as much information as we're allowed!!

I know, I know, they're paid to say it's going to be great, and they made the DVD so they're obviously going to like it, but nonetheless, I'd like to be the first to say ohmygodohmygodohmygod. In the time it took to read that paragraph, I went from being slightly-to-moderately stoked for the new DVD to all-out LaBrieing.
:dangerwillrobinson:And, look! "LOTS of bonus features!" With a capital LOTS! This bodes very, very well.

If they're syncing their announcements with the band... title on its way, do you reckon?

SeRoX

Bonus features.  :omg: :metal

"LaBrie , The Jester - Spinning Around On Stage"

The Presence of Frenemies

The best LaBrie spinning moment I ever saw was from an old TKH performance when he's whipping the mic around in sync with the unison section, then loses control of it and spins out of frame. Hilarious.

Yeah, also wanted to stress this, so first it was Christmas, April, then May. Now it's like, it'll be out this year, so this sound awfully like November  :lol

ResultsMayVary

As far as I know, Christmas was never mentioned by OTE or the band. It was, however, tossed around DTF as the 'ideal' release date that made the most sense.

JR said "after the new year" and I remember February being tossed around as well.

I know, I just wanted to stress how that "anticipated" release date has been moved further and further away....  :(

Hey guys, I have an update about DT12. Stay tuned for my next post in this thread.
Okay, so, I can't let anything out without coordinating with the band first... HOWEVER, I will say that DT12 is currently being worked on to satisfy fan cravings for the best possible DT experience! The album is bound to be released in several versions and on several formats, and I will definitely be pointing you all to some real goodies as the band makes the available. Thanks for following!
