I honestly don't see that happening, unless I have underestimated the storage of the BR medium. If they resolve on using a Dual Layer BD (up to 50GB of storage!) they could very well include TCOT, LTL, The Grea Debate and probably the rest of the show, but I don't believe this will be the case.

I'm trying to resist staying off topic but finding it difficult. I second Shadow2222's comment above.

Thanks! 3D can be truly amazing when working right (and I agree, sometimes it can be hard to initially get it working. Also, I completely forgot about animated movies, which are some of the best in 3D! I have to see Finding Nemo in 3D soon.

Okay, back on topic:

I know its already been stated in this thread, but I reaaaaally hope that TCOT works its way onto the DVD, even if it is from High Voltage. It's criminal that we haven't seen a professionally recorded version of that yet!

I like when 3D is used just to give depth in a film and not slapped on afterwards to make things come out of the screen as a bloody novelty.

It should serve the story first and foremost. Except now films are being made just to have 3D to throw stuff at the camera as a gimmick and its completely backwards.

Prometheus had really good 3D. Nothing was poking at you and some scenes were really good in 3D - especially The Orrery.

What recent 3D films do you think are guilty of this?  Because, to me it seems like most movies are moving away from that and into a better use of the technology.

Kotowboy

I wouldn't know because I avoid films like that like a plague.

But i've seen trailers and clips and heard reviews etc. Most recently Jack The Giant Slayer where magic beans were thrown at the camera in 3D.

Pretty sure there was a scene in one of the Pirates Of The Cash-In where swords are pointed at the audience...

Like I said - it's backwards. The technology should be a tool to enhance the experience and be working in the background. Not upfront as a gimmick.

It's the movie equivalent of autotune or melodyne. It should be used subtly to make a perfect vocal take and you shouldn't really notice it if it's done well - NOT to make a singer sound like a ROBOT.

Perpetual Change

Was there supposed to be an update today?

Unless we completely misunderstood the message! Plus, "soon" could very well mean "in a week".

I guess what I'm saying is that I think most people working in 3D today are already doing what you say they should be doing.  The exceptions are mostly the movies that the studio decided to hastily switch to 3D to make more $.  My rule of thumb is to only see 3D movies that were shot in 3D.  For movies shot in 2D then converted after the fact, I just watch the 2D version.

Definitely agree with this - which is why I saw Prometheus in 3D but want to see Star Trek Into Darkness in 2D.

I agree with this almost completely. However, there is an exception to everything: Avengers and Titanic were great in 3D.

Kotowboy

I'd love to see Titanic in 3D since I know James Cameron wouldn't allow himself to release a sub-par product.

Kamelot announced their tour dates using that word more than four weeks ago...

Maybe RR have set some internal timeframe and the trailer mustn't be delivered before 17th February  :tdwn

Hey, this is DT! In November 2010 JP said the new drummer would be announced "soon" and we go the doc 5 months after that. Let's keep our fingers crossed that a trailer will have been released by June! :lol

Avengers wasn't shot in 3D because Whedon couldn't get the results he wanted with the 3D rig, but he always kept the 3D in mind when filming, so it is one case where a conversion was worthwhile.  I'm not sitting through Titanic again just to find out if the 3D is any good, but Cameron probably wouldn't have done a 3D conversion of it didn't look good.

Shadow2222

Haha, maybe we should get a bit more on topic.

I know I'm probably the only one, but I wish they would've performed Raw Dog. I know they probably never will, and it's not a fantastic song by any means, but I think the South American audience would have ate it up. It would've been nice to have something "special" on this DVD, like Budokan had Disappear.

Perpetual Change

"Raw Dog" is the kind of "something special" that your real life dog leaves for you in the living room after he starts to go senile.

I don't think the SA audience would have ate it up, needless to say. South Americans love good concerts, but they're not so manipulable that you can just get up on stage and "chugga chugga chugga" and have them go nuts.

That wouldn't have been special.

Shadow2222

Haha, you guys really don't like Raw Dog. Maybe I like it so much because I love the God of War games and it really fits the game well.

Did it even get in the game?

Shadow2222

^ No, but I think it really captures the essence of the game in the first section after the "djent" beginning (which is relatively annoying, and the repetition at the end of the song is awful. I love everything in between).

Prog Snob

Raw Dog is probably the only DT song I have never heard.

So you've heard "Cry For Freedom", "The School Song", "Resurrection Of Ernie", "Don't Look Past Me", "To Live Forever", "Eve", "Raise The Knife", "Speak To Me", "Cover My Eyes", "Where Are You Now?" and "The Way It Used To Be"? :tup

What the hell are those? Are they actually DT songs, or some Majesty stuff that doesn't count? I've never heard of those in all of my time here!

Majesty songs that count but that I have never listened in my life  :lol
