I like the track, but i'd be disappointed if they played it live at a gig I was attending. I feel it drags out a bit too long and there are many more songs i'd rather see live..so purely selfish reasons  :lol

I love the song both on the album, and seeing it the one time I did live on the 6DOIT w/ Satch leg.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but maybe it is not the best live due to the topic matter/sound bytes and about 4 minutes of atmosphere-esque playing?

Metropolis1928

This is a tough question.

I voted the first option because 'I' think it is a great song (and I really love the lyrics, and how JP treated the subject) and it has a lot of energy (powah!) for a live setting. But...

I saw this song live once, at the Sonisphere in Madrid last year. When they started with the intro I went nuts. Seriously. Frikkin' nuts. I couldn't believe they were playing that song in a 1-hour festival and started to cheer (yes, really) and jumping when the main riff kicked in. I sang the choruses even more than the previous songs (and we had these walls, and you know how that song works live). But I was one of the 5 people that were doing that. The other thousands of people (who where there mainly to see Iron Maiden) seemed bored during the entire song.

I don't know. I really enjoyed TGD that day but now I think that DT did a strange thing playing that song in that leg (with all the summer festivals and all) because they were playing in front of a lot of audiences that weren't (exclusively) DT fans and maybe that's why they got the impression that TGD is not a good live song. But I think that it'd have worked really well in the other legs of the tour with all the screens and the new setup.

But seriously, I said retire it.  Good album track - such a tease though.

I really enjoyed it and looked forward to it very much on 2011 show I was at. It used to be my least favorite song on SDOIT and it's now for a year or two my favorite or second favorite song on SDOIT and I hope it will be on the DVD it's one of the few "must be on official DVD one day" songs on my list.

I saw it at the High Voltage festival last year and it was POWERFUL, it has great energy live. I would love for it to make the dvd. The intro is an atmospheric build that makes the first riff hit much harder, so I actually enjoy it.

I can't remember if I've seen them play it live or even on a DVD (perhaps Bucharest bootleg?) can't say off the top of my head.  Regardless, I think it would be a great live song.  I voted the first option.

It's one of those rare cases where I think the song itself leans more toward the band's Progressive side, but it has just as much energy and sense of excitement (SO ENERGY. POWAH.) as any of the band's Metal, balls-to-the-wall hits.

I loved seeing it live last year in Israel, and I'd love to have some footage of it on the DVD.

Elite

It's a top 10 Dream Theater song for me. I loved seeing it live.

It must definitely be on the DVD. Such a killer live track.

LIFE TO SAVE LIFE!

Voted not a great live tune. Saw it played last year and found my attention wandering. Just felt it didn't translate well live. I'm not a fan of the build up and the outro- the rest is fine.

Rattlehead

Wouldn't mind seeing this live at all but I totally see why people wouldn't react well to it, especially those who aren't huge DT fans.

Olibu

I actually think it should be played live without the samples. I get that some people would argue that it goes against the intention of the song, but we've heard it on the album and live on Bucharest. It would be neat to either shorten the intro or add more crazy stuff in lieu of the samples.
