Sleeping Dogs, the new Grand Theft Auto-ish game formerly known as True Crime: Hong Kong is out as of August 14 in the U.S. I believe it will be out in Europe within a week. It focuses on a undercover cop trying to take down the Triads from the inside out (it takes place in Hong Kong, if you couldn't guess from its former title).

As many of you know, these games prominently feature shooting, combat, and driving. While driving, there are different radio stations. One such radio station is all Roadrunner music. While Opeth and Trivium have both been featured in Saints Row 2 and 3, this marks the first time that Dream Theater has been in one of these games. Here is the full list for the Roadrunner station:

Black Stone Cherry - Rain Wizard
Black Stone Cherry - Change
DevilDriver - Dead To Rights
DevilDriver - Bring the Fight (To the Floor)
Dream Theater - On the Backs of Angels
Fear Factory - Edgecrusher (Urban Assault Mix)
Killswitch Engage - My Curse
Machine Head - Be Still and Know
Machine Head - Locust
Opeth - The Grand Conjuration
Opeth - The Devil's Orchard
The Parlor Mob - After All
The Parlor Mob - Take What's Mine
Soulfly - World Scum
Trivium - Anthem (We Are the Fire)

I bought the game yesterday, and while I haven't got a chance to play it, many people are giving it glowing reviews.

TAC

Crummy DT song choice for that type of game (good song, just not really fitting imo), but I am always happy to see DT spreading out more into mainstream exposure, so good for them. :tup

Yea, something heavier would fit better. I would LOVE to hear Metropolis in a game

Looks like it would have to be Roadrunner era though, which means SC onwards. And they may have wanted to stick to the new album. I think BMUBMD would have been the better choice for a game like this, although I'm fully aware it's probably the weakest song on the album, and OTBOA is much more representative of DT's sound. But I can't imagine them going with one of the other 10+ minute songs from the album.

Nice ;D Was considering buying the game anyway, but this seals the deal  :P
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

No, it would never fit in with the tone of the game (assuming you're talking about Pt. 1). Yes, the song is brilliant, but the cheesy early 90's mixing of the song would ruin the entire atmosphere of the game.

Agreed... I think a song like BMUBMD (even though I don't like it) would have been a better choice for a game like that, or even Constant Motion or TDEN if it had to be from the Roadrunner era.

Yeah, OTBOA doesn't work in a game like this.

I've gotta say, that looks really lame.

For those of you who don't know, I live in Hong Kong and have been living here for two years. Watching this game, you'd never really know it. It looks way too empty, for one. That is NOT crowded enough to be Hong Kong. Secondly, the chinglish is a horrible mockery (HK local ppl don't speak good English, but its not like what it is in this game at all), and the presence of prostitutes everywhere is just not even close to being accurate.

Frankly, it looks like a cheap GTAIV knock-off, with a half-assed HK setting. I guess it's cool DT are in the game, if anyone plays it.

How did Devil's Orchard make it with the other songs on this list?

A few things (not in any way meant to insult you):

1. This game is for current generation consoles and PCs. It can only have so many people without causing massive slowdown.

2. It is a game that is not meant to necessarily emulate "real" Hong Kong, but "cinema" Hong Kong (it takes inspiration from many of the older Hong Kong Triad movies from the 80's).

3. It is a game made for English speakers primarily, so of course the characters speak mostly in English (with the only reason for some alternate language speaking to provide some "authenticity" to those who don't truly know what it is like in Hong Kong). This is the same reason why Shenmue was dubbed in English.

4. This game is not simply a GTA knock off. It has more inspired characters and a much more involved combat system. In fact, you can't even keep a gun in your inventory. It simply acts as a "pick up item" that once all the ammo is used, simply gets thrown away. It really goes for the "violent HK movie" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdyLCxd4Ch4

Here are some better gameplay videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaCQlhvVobE (highlights the improved PC graphics)

This one has 30 minutes of gameplay that you can skim through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtG-I2ikUkU

Anyways, sorry for the rant, but I've played about two hours, and I really enjoy it. Much better than GTA4 and possibly Saints Row the Third.

Why DT no get two songs?

9 minutes normally is two songs, us DT fans tend to forget that. ;)

I can agree but I think The Grand Conjuration is over 10 minutes long...

I do wish DT had two songs in the game. Strange that they don't. Oh well, I'm just glad that they have one! Surreal to hear DT in a relatively popular game.

Eh, the more I know I learn about it, the more it's "lost potential" to me. I just saw the map, and it's not HK at all. I mean, Hong Kong is inclusive of an upscale island, a landlocked harbor area (with slums to the east, west, and north), and a bunch of outskirting mountains, tiny fishing islands/villages, and other natural areas. I've always thought it'd be awesome for Rockstar to do a GTA China, but making a game that stayed true to that would have been better.

I guess my opinion of this game will be tainted now no-matter what because of my experience living. But it's just not HK to me-- not in the same way that GTA IV is NYC.

Ask The Throat of Winter :lol

Yeah not exactly the choice I would like to hear. I think Lie, Constant Motion, This Dying Soul or even TDEN would have worked better on this type of game.
