A few weeks there were a series of interviews which were posted here.
JLB talking about the new planed DVD, JR and all the DT guys about whatever.
They seem all very happy and in peace with themselves.
On the other hand there was a interview with MP in England before a AM concert,
he said how exited and psyched he was,
but I had the feeling his eyes seemed tired and not happy at all(just my feeling).
He checks in the DTF like yesterday, to see what is said here.
Don't you think if he could turn back time he would do it instantly?
On the other hand how do JLB, JR, JP and JM think about it?
Are they happy how things developed or would they turn back the time?

I don't think either of them are perfectly happy, I think they both want him back but they are both just getting on with it

Why would they tell him not to come back if they wanted him back?

Like rumby posted in another thread, I think at least one or two members would leave if MP came back so...

Because they literally just hired MM and it hadn't been long but as the arguments settle I think they want him back

Why would they be more comfortable firing MM after a few years of touring than when they hadn't done any touring or albums with him?

MM has also talked about the band's long-term plan, and he has expressed thankfulness that the band has trusted him with the second half of their career.

I think, given the facts, you have to be doing some serious wishful thinking to believe that MP is coming back.

No, I think you want him back. I think you want him back so badly that you are convinced that they want him back despite 0 evidence and a whole lot of counter evidence.

Dude, Portnoy's gone. It's time to move on. DT has made 1 cd since he left, MP has made like 30, as a MP fan you should be happy he's gone.

I don't know but they had a lot of chemistry together and anything can happen, nobody saw MP's departure coming

Yes I do want him back but at no point did I say he will be coming back, I have 'moved on' I'm happy with DT and flying colors but I just gave my opinion

If DT had wanted MP back, they would have taken him back.  I don't know why you don't understand that.

He had only just left and just got a new drummer. As I said before, they are just getting on with it.

DebraKadabra

Well yeah, but he asked to come back AFTER they'd chosen Mangini.

"Gee, I really want Portnoy back.  I wish I could accept his offer to re-join the band right now, but Mangini just joined.  I guess I'll wait a few years until Mangini is even more secure with his position in the band.  It'll be easier to kick him out then." - JP

Well yes but I said it about 10 times now...

So you are all telling me after 25 years of being in DT none of them miss him at all....

I'm just giving my opinion not telling you what will happen.....
Hence the question who DO YOU? Think....

Believe or not. I was not shocked by the departure news like many. I saw that coming from the second of MP started to hang out with AS guys and stated that he wanted to do things with other bands. Not just that, especially the last Asia tour with MP, MP seemed unhappy and I can say this for other guys.

To sum up, the chemistry between them has been broken long ago!

CrimsonSunrise

No one can say for sure, we're not them ;)  But.... If I were to venture a guess, from everything I've heard in interviews with all involved, I'd say they don't want him back.  Also, I agree with folks who would guess that if he did come back we'd probably need a new singer, and maybe a new Bass player IMHO.  Now, down the road MAYBE, if fences were mended properly.

DebraKadabra

See though... that's the thing.  We can only give our opinions, because a lot of us don't know the DT guys/MP on a personal level like that.  I do know that Jordan was VERY broken up about it after it happened, because he'd said so in an interview or something.  I would assume all of them were, in some respect or another.

Now that some time has passed?  All I can go on is their demeanor on stage, and it's not hard to tell that they're all genuinely happy.  A lot happier than they were the last couple of years with MP.

I'm not going to say either way whether the split should've happened or not.  I do know that I was VERY upset about it at first, but given how the guys are now?  IMO, there's really no comparison.  I'm also not knocking YOU as an MP fan - I get that you want him back in DT.  What oafs and Adami are saying is that you give the appearance that you haven't accepted that MP may not ever come back, and IMO that is a very distinct possibility at this point.  I really can't say 100% for SURE if MP/DT are happy with the way things are right now.  How it appears to me is that the DT guys are MUCH happier than MP seems to be right now.

I long had the impression that there was latent dislike. MP was completely oblivious of it in his bubble, but when he over-gambled and kicked himself out, he essentially woke sleeping dogs. My guess would be that both JLB and JM would quit if MP came back.

Sure, I would like MP back but I AM happy with DT at the moment, yes I do want MP to come back at some point but im not saying it will happen I am still happy that DT are still going and for as long as they are going i will respect them. Just don't twist my words.

Not true. I made a thread two weeks before MP left asking who would pull a Kevin Moore and leave the band. I said MP because the tone of his interviews were tired and derogatory towards JLB. Everyone called me stupid, but in the end, I was right.

For the record, I think even the belief that DT desperately wants to kick out MM to get back MP is completely unfounded, and goes against massive evidence to the contrary.

rumborak

Keep also in mind that MP apparently has little desire left for prog metal. Why would you want somebody in your band who doesn't even enjoy the music you make?

And on a personal note, I would hate to get those tired fills back.

rumborak

jonnybaxy

Doesn't really make sence seeing as he has a metal band and a prog rock band now.. basically leaving a prog metal for prog and metal.

I'm curious, what would be the reasoning for JM leaving? JLB would make perfect sense though.

rumborak

JM's input got marginalized to the point where he stopped contributing, and his bass is almost nonexistent on several albums. He gets publicly shut down by MP on a DVD commentary, and MP bitches about him just punching the clock. And lo and behold, MP is out and JM writes lyrics again.
Looks to me as if JM has zero incentive for MP to come back.

I remember a handful of DTF members speculating about Portnoy's possible departure from the band in the months prior to September 2010, and I thought they were all crazy - I never thought he would leave the band he considered his own - but they were right and I was wrong, so to say that no one saw it coming is not accurate.

But to answer the question, DT definitely seems happier.

ReaPsTA

There was an interview with Portnoy where he talked about feeling obligated to stop working with Avenged Sevenfold in January because of the upcoming Dream Theater album recording.  He didn't sound like he wanted to be there, which felt very odd.

I just think the idea of MP leaving DT was so unimaginable.  I still can't comprehend why he would do it.
