Probably this has been discussed tons but this video almost makes me cry, this band is just simply a gift to humanity, and we should be happy to be part of their journey also. Enjoy guys.

You just can't appreciate enough this song.

TheOutlawXanadu

Such a feel-good song. Actually, come to think of it, I might try learning it on guitar today!

Scorpion

I love this song, but I'm probably one of the few people that doesn't have it in their Top 10. It's great, but there are quite a few better songs.

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite

Emo DT fans?

What?

Probably because we're not enjoying LtL enough, and emos are, you know, known for not enjoying life, therefore for not enjoying learning to live as well. I could be wrong, though.

Me too.

Apparently- Mike Portnoy still has it in storage at his house.

Fourth Horseman

Probably my #1 DT song. Simply amazing.

Nope, I'll join you there. It's not in my top 20, probably not even top 50.

Great performance.  This is one of about a half-dozen songs that sort of lives permanently in my head.

TAC

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

hefdaddy42

It's my favorite DT song, as well.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

cookienut

JLBs voice actually made bacon in that clip.

Ben_Jamin

I love the atmosphere and tone of this song.

And check out JP's strumming during that lead-up. haha

So as I was reading Atlas Shrugged this morning, I came across this line and stopped dead in my tracks for a moment:

It sounded so familiar and then it dawned on me that it reminded me of the opening lyric of Learning to Live. Just an odd little coincidence I wanted to share.

Scorpion

BlobVanDam

I do recall someone bringing that one up before, so I think that one has been known for a while. As far as I can recall, that was the only lyrical similarity in the song.

?

Dream Theater - ripping off lyrics from books since 1992

On a serious note, I haven't read that book but I remember reading about this similarity in the DT FAQ.

E: ninja'd

LieLowTheWantedMan

It's a pretty good song.

425

Hmm, I thought that was pretty well known. Actually, reading about it is what made me initially fall in love with Learning to Live, as Atlas Shrugged is one of my favorite books. Also, look two lines down: "He was back in confident self-control".
