Don't think I've seen this done here, so my apologies if it has, but I was wondering how everyone would track a 1-disc (max 79 minutes) compilation of songs from Systematic Chaos, Black Clouds & Silver Linings and A Dramatic Turn Of Events.

Here's how mine looks (at least for now)
In The Presence Of Enemies Part 1 (wind segued into...)
Lost Not Forgotten
A Rite Of Passage
Wither
Constant Motion
The Ministry Of Lost Souls (fade-out segued into...)
The Best Of Times
Bridges In The Sky

It clocks in around 78-79 minutes (did the math in my head).

-Marc.

On The Backs Of Angels
This Is The Life
Beneath The Surface
Bridges In The Sky
Outcry
Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions
The Count Of Tuscany

:lol

SeRoX

1- In The Presence Of Enemies (Pt-1 and Pt-2)
2- Forsaken
3- Wither
4- Lost Not Forgotten
5- Outcry
6- Bridges In The Sky
7- Far From Heaven
8- Breaking All Illusions

It's about 80 min.

BlobVanDam

Likely RR compilation tracklist (and a great little playlist too)-

Forsaken
Constant Motion
The Dark Eternal Night
A Rite of Passage
Wither
The Count of Tuscany
On the Backs of Angels
BMUBMD
Bridges in the Sky

It's 81 minutes as is, but once you shave off the TCOT outro, the BITS intro, you could probably squeeze it into a CD. Also, I think compilations should always be chronological order.

However, if I were basically simply choosing favourites to stick on one CD instead, it would be more like-

Constant Motion
The Dark Eternal Night
A Nightmare to Remember
The Count of Tuscany
Lost Not Forgotten
This is the Life
Bridges in the Sky

That's 79 minutes, again shorter once you trim off the intros/outros.

iamtheeviltwin

In my imagined playlist order:

Bridges in the Sky
Prophets of War
Wither
Breaking All Illusions
Forsaken
Repentance
The Count of Tuscany
Beneath the Surface

Just shy of 76 minutes.  Think it represents a good range of DT ability from the period, a little bit of everything from the current RR lineup from epics to ballads.

As I Am

A Dramatic Turn of Events....everything else can be left off! :rollin

Not called this, but I'm nearly certain this thread already exists somewhere...

Edit: Hmmm, must have gotten pruned, or maybe I'm just getting senile.

I know there was one for SC+BC&SL, but I don't recall it including ADTOE.

My first effort at this came out at 2 hours long  :lol

1. On the Backs of Angels
2. In the Presence of Enemies Pt. 1
3. In the Presence of Enemies Pt. 2
4. Bridges in the Sky
5. Breaking All Illusions

77 minutes. A rather unbalanced compilation
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Ah, okay, that's probably it.

Zook

Yeah, that was the Black Chaos & Systematic Linings or whatnot Thread.

This compilation would be identical to ADTOE for me.

1. Repentance

No need for the others.

:|

What? It's the only song they've done recently that I actually love. The rest range from bad to okay.

And oddly it's on my least favorite DT CD.

You don't like Bridges in the Sky or Breaking All Illusions?!

GASP!

Two things.

1. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and if you don't like anything else from the past three CDs, that's fine, of course.  I wouldn't ask you to change your opinion merely because I find it odd.

I said some of them are Okay!

Okay is good. I actually enjoy listening to some of BCSL and some of ADTOE. I just don't "love" any of the songs from them.

Ah, okay, that's probably it.

Yeah, that was it.

This is really hard to do.  It was tough enough with just SC and BCSL.  But ADTOE is such a good album.  The pacing is about perfect, and the album just flows.  It's hard to rip a few songs from it and put them somewhere else.

This isn't perfect, but here goes:

1.  A Nightmare To Remember
2.  Build Me Up, Break Me Down
3.  Constant Motion
4.  Wither
5.  Bridges In The Sky
6.  In The Presence of Enemies, pt. 1
7.  Beneath The Surface
8.  Forsaken
9.  Outcry

That's 77:55 total.  And while I normally would have left Wither off and hate this list for leaving off other songs that should be there, I had to try to find some kind of balance between the three albums.

Fair enough.  I think part of my shock comes from the fact that Repentance is one of my least favorite Dream Theater songs.  To each his own, though!

Anyway, I guess I should try to do this.

In The Presence of Enemies (Part I)
Constant Motion
The Dark Eternal Night
Wither
The Count of Tuscany
Bridges in the Sky
Breaking All Illusions
Beneath the Surface

Chronological order because I'm lazy.  Also, I'm not sure how well these go together as a package, I basically just picked my favorites from each album.

54_diplomats

1. In the Presence of Enemies pt1
2. The Dark Eternal Night
3. The Shattered Fortress
4. Bridges in the Sky
5. Far from Heaven
6. Breaking all Illusions

Jamariquay

1. In The Presence Of Enemies, Pt. 1
2. Forsaken
3. Constant Motion
4. Wither
5. The Count Of Tuscany
6. On The Backs Of Angels
7. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
8. Bridges In The Sky

Don't really care for A Rite Of Passage.

But none of them are good enough to be on the same disc as Repentance?

I'd probably do the same thing lol. Even though it won't fit.....CD's can only hold 78:59 of music.

I thought about doing something similar, but I wanted more variety (shorter AND longer songs), so I opted to forgo the "omgz epixxx" route (like I normally would :lol ).

Not true, I've over-burned standard CD-r's up to 81:30 before and they worked perfectly fine for me.
