Most of you know that L@M songs were overdub in the studio because James was sick that day. Ok, this one thing we know.

But when the discussion goes on about how the vocals are absolulety GODLIKE in that record then someone comes and says: sorry but all vox were recorded in this studio so don't consider them "real live performance" or "James voice on this record is deceptive"

All I can say, there are some bootlegs or live recordings from that era on the youtube and literally there is no difference at all. For example: The Killing Hand which is absoluletly amazing on L@M and I can say that there are even better live performance vocally.

Such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNXgd8PlhUQ or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep2vadeM9nY

And I don't even mention about other records like Another Day or Fortune In Lies which can be found on youtube with better vocals.

^ I don't find that appropriate at all, because Serox brings up, IMO, a valid point. JLB did have some terrific vocal performances in that era, yet everyone tends to bring up the fact that he overdubbed in the vein of "Oh he overdubbed, meaning he couldn't really sing like that," instead of "Oh, he overdubbed, but he was able to pull off performances like that during that era."

Okay. I'm sure you were really deeply offended by that harmless gif; so much so that you need to tell me it's "inappropriate" for this very formal place of discussion.

Anyway, I didn't say I disagree with him. Yeah, JLB could pull off good performances in that era. I never criticized the overdubs-- a lot of people overdub.

Eh, I don't think he was saying your gif was inappropriate in the offensive way, more in that it just doesn't make sense, like a lot of your gifs.

I mean, he does make threads about points of debate...

Anyway, back to the original topic: I didn't like the first video you posted. It's off pitch. The second one is a lot better. It's pretty good.

On subject-a lot of James's work on the 92-93 tour is really great, BUT, he resorts to just growling/yelling sometimes and not singing.  Which kind of isn't good.

Adami

I didn't hear any growling, I heard him add some gruff to his voice, which frankly is more impressive than singing in the exact same voice non stop. I would love it if James started experimenting again with vocal techniques and not just singing everything in his standard voice.

I have the original bootleg of the show, and IMO 90% or more of what had been sung that night was perfectly fine for a live release. They just added the climatic scream in Metropolis and polished things here and there. The Killing Hand, for instance was pretty much the same before and after the overdubbing.

Tomislav95

Although he overdubbed his vocals he sang like this in studio. So yes, he could pull of performance like this.

BlobVanDam

I feel the same way about Marquee. While it's overdubbed, it's still very representative of what JLB was capable based on the true live stuff I've seen from the era, so I don't consider it cheating.
For overdubbing a live album, I doubt JLB did more than 1 or 2 takes anyway, so it's probably not much less "live" than truly live anyway.

While I agree with Adami's point about live variation, even some aggressive styled stuff, I prefer what W&W&W mentioned with hitting the notes normally. Too often he did scream to hit the high notes, even with the band poking fun of it on LIT commentary.

I do not know what the official word is on vocals, but i doubt James thinks that screaming high notes is in the best interest of his voice anymore.

the LATM vocals rule. i could care less where they came from.

this. i just wish they'd re-release it and include the full show (or at least "Under a Glass Moon" and "Another Day," which we have from other releases/versions of LATM). maybe pack a second disc with some other live stuff from around the time, or something else appropriate for a re-release.

Came here to post this.

I came to post that they rule and I COULDN'T care less.

The fact that the vocals were re-recorded takes away from the sex appeal but then you hear once in a livetime and there a definitely some cringe moments. So which would I prefer? If he overdubbed OIALT It would be so much more listenable and probably a much larger sucess. JLB needs to re-invent his sound like Eric AK did.

There's something about James's young voice that I don't like. His range is incredible, but he sounds like a smoker.

few things rival the epicness that is the

Implode

I wish they would've released the entire concert, even if JLB was going to rerecord the vocals anyway. The UAGM they released later was amazing. I would've loved to have TTT and LTL as well.
