God willing I will be there
Just wish they were coming to Atlanta

Come on, it's JP 45th birthday! Someone ought to be there!

Cookstar

I'm in NC.  I'll probably be going to this one.  I saw them in Atlanta in October.

Yeah, we do too. Richmond and DC for us. Gonna stay an extra day and tour DC. Memorials, Arlington Cemetery etc.

Yeah, that will be a good night. Think we will get to sing Happy Birthday to JP? We got our tickets today as well. 35 dollars before fees for DT? Thats a steal!

Paul

I'm about 60 miles from DC and 90 miles from Richmond.... but heading to Richmond for this leg of the tour. Went to DC on the first leg, and while the Warner Theater is a nice room, it's not all that conducive for  :metal :metal :metal

The National is general admission, so the wife and I will be able to get up nice and close, much more intimate feel... will be awesome!

A 2 and a half hour drive for me, no question about it. I am super excited, going to buy my ticket now.

Question for those of you who have been before. What is this venue like? I've read some pretty positive reviews online, and I understand that it is general admission, but for those of us who want to stand near the front and aren't the tallest people in the room; is this going to be a problem?

Its always a problem if you want to stand and there is taller people in front of you. Just try and get as close as you can so there's not as many people between you and the stage. I'm 6'1" so it's usually not as big a problem for me. We saw them there a few years ago and I remember it being really packed down on the floor. Here is a pic looking out from the stage. Good luck man.

sweet, I just got my ticket. I'm prepared to kill anyone who gets between me and the front

What is the likely format of the concert going to be? A mostly DT show, with a few songs by the opening act? Or something more like the Progressive Nation tour from a few years ago that had a stop at The National? A fiend and I went to that show where Opeth, Between The Buried And Me, and one other band (Three, I think?) played, and we left feeling like we really hadn't seen much of DT. Which was the only reason we went. Will this show be more of them this time around??

Opening Act: 30-45 minutes
DT: 120-150 minutes

Does anyone know if any of the boys are doing an in store appearance anywhere in Richmond?

JoiseyDTLovah

Just two more days until we celebrate in Richmond! Johns' Birthday too.

Who is going?

I'll be the dude with the DT Fez!

Jaq

Wish I could have made this one, since I saw DT at the National on the first Prog Nation tour and it's a decent venue for a show, but some family related health issues got in the way. Nice to see them play Richmond again, maybe they'll make a habit of it, since otherwise I'm driving to DC to see them.

This will be our second time seeing them at the National. Getting up there early from North Carolina then on to the show in DC. Any good places to eat close to the national? A wings and beer kind of place maybe?

There's this: https://www.gibsonsgrill.com/index.php
Literally right next door to the venue

Then there's also a Buffalo Wild Wings which is about a 15 minute walk from the venue

Thanks Metropolaris. Gibsons menu looks good. The "From the Grill" section is a bit pricey, but the sandwiches look nice. We are taking our bikes and we may bike around the area some. Maybe even down to the Buffalo Wild Wings. Then we are biking for two days in DC.

The DT boys have today and tomorrow off before the show in Richmond so they will be rested and ready to go. Should be a great show.

If you're going to the Gibson Grill go to the downstairs bar... don't sit upstairs in the restaurant part.  I've been told by friends that if your order food and drinks down there they let you into the venue just before they open the doors as there is access from Gibsons into the National... but can't verify it as I've never done it myself.

The wife and I have to drive down from Northern Virginia after we get off work, but if we get there earlier enough we will probably go downstairs in Gibsons before the show.

JoiseyDTLovah

Anyone want to get a bite before the show?

phentalmyst

for those that don't know, mangini is doing a meet and greet from 1-3 at just drums.

Cookstar

Just arrived at my hotel. See y'all tonight!

You guys can expect to see a Happy Birthday song for JP tonight! :metal

JoiseyDTLovah

Thanks for the heads up on the mangini in store appearance!  Nice guy.

These Richmond guys are so irresponsible, they just went right to bed after the show without sharing pics or stories.

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause

I just woke up and hoped to find as always some stories about the show, but there's only a disappointing lack of them :/
