From this interview from this finnish magazine, at the end JP hinted that maybe they start to record the new cd later this year....what do you think?? I'm psyched!!

Can't read a word of that interview, but it's possible I guess.  I think maybe more March/April would be realistic.

BlobVanDam

That pretty much fits their usual schedule, doesn't it? They might be a few months later this time around considering.
As long as they swing by Australia beforehand, it's all good.

I've used google translate and the quote is:

QuoteOf course it is also possible that we begin to write the next album later this year. Let's see what happens!

I'd be cool with that. I already need a new DT fix. :yarr

obscure

Well no, I would think March/April would be considerably earlier for them. At least since I've been a fan, it's been all summer releases.

What? All he said was it's possible they'll start writing the next album later this year. That's about the same time of year they usually start the new album in their 2 year cycle, isn't it? (Octavarium onwards)
I don't know where March/April comes into it.

Man if they actually started writing the new album that early, that would be super fast for them.  Usually its one album every 2 years.  Not every year.

When you think about how long it is between starting an album and releasing it, it actually works out about the same as usual. If they're starting an album at the end of this year, it won't be released until at least mid 2013.

Gigs, he pretty much follow the drum tracks from discs, but if I smile at him significantly, or give a clear signal, so he starts to improvise a lot, laugh Petrucci

LOL.

I suppose so, but if they start writing in April, I feel like that would put the album out much earlier than usual.  They usually start writing and going into the studio in October or so.  That would put them on track.  But that's still a year away, not really soon by any means.

To be more precise, he says they'll possibly start writing new stuff before the end of the year.

JP also says that he's enjoyed doing the 2-hour sets as opposed to the "Evening with" format, as he sometimes noticed that the audience started losing their enthusiasm towards the end of the show when DT played 2 sets a night. He thinks playing 2 sets works the best when they play a full album in the first set and other material in the second one.

His comment on ADTOE being more melodic than the previous few is that their music will always have a metallic background but "nothing super-heavy or dark can be found on this album and it's not our identity." The rest of his comments is basically what we've heard already.

Someone in the thread predicted March/April, then the thread title says new DT for early 2013.  They usually release albums in the latter part of the year though.  So if they are going by the normal schedule we should see a new album between June-October of 2013.

Ok I did all the calculations this is what I have

Average time per album release: 2.04 years/745 days

Time in between each studio album

WDADU > I&W, 3 years, 4 months, 1 day/1219 days
I&W > Awake, 2 years, 2 months, 3 weeks, 6 days/819 days
Awake > FII, 2 years, 11 months, 2 weeks, 5 days/1085 days
FII > SFAM, 2 years, 1 month, 3 days/763 days
SFAM > 6DOIT, 2 years, 3 months, 3 days/826 days
6DOIT > TOT, 1 year, 9 months, 1 week, 6 days/651 days
TOT > 8VM, 1 year, 6 months, 3 weeks, 6 days/574 days
8VM > SC, 1 year, 11 months, 4 weeks/727 days
SC > BC&SL, 2 years, 2 weeks, 5 days/750 days
BC&SL > ADTOE, 2 years, 2 months, 3 weeks/812 days

bosk1

You can probably throw out WDADU > I&W and Awake > FII as far as the "average" calculation since the delays were caused by forced outside the band's control.

Petrucci's comment that DT is metal, but not dark and heavy really hits home.  This is excatly why I love DT.  They take all the best aspects of metal (speed, power, virtuosity, agressiveness) and discard the silly traits of metal (the fake evilness, the fake toughness, gruesome/satanic lyrics, etc . . .).

What makes those traits "fake" aside from the fact you dislike them?

I just want to see them in Croatia  :)

So, anyone got tracklisting and lengths?

I will have to make some up otherwise.

I think I know what you mean.  DT rarely devolves into a lot of the silliness of metal, which is why some had a problem, I think, with Systematic Chaos, as that at times descended into typical metal, what with the silly fantasy lyrics (ITPOE Part 2) and the fake toughness (Constant Motion).  DT does metal much better when putting their own mature spin on things, instead of going for the metal LCD.

Lashie

I wouldn't be surprised if their next album is released sooner rather than later, with this being the first album MM is featured as part of the writing process.

Sounds like JP and the boys had a lot more ideas going into ADTOE than appeared on the album if he thinks they are ready by the end of the year already. That's cool. Can't wait to hear what MM contributes this time around and I think their next album should be more drum driven as ADTOE was keyboard driven and Black Clouds was more guitar driven.

Well, JLB said that MM is still not going to be a part of the writing process for DT12, but hopefully yes, we see more of his style.

I hope they make an album in the vein of FII->SFAM->SDOIT.  That was their best "sound" IMO.
