Richie Kotzen joined Poison in 1993.  Their career promptly went into the toilet for several years.

Paul Gilbert left Mr. Big in 1997.  Richie Kotzen joined.  The band broke up.

Mike Portnoy should stay far away from Richie Kotzen.

A) Both those bands were established, successful bands.  This one is completely new, so they have no place to go but up, and
2) Looking at the music industry at the time, both of those bands were already on their way out of the spotlight anyway.
