I worked out my top fifty a little while back. Not to post, just to work out whether I could. And while I appreciate the song, and respect it, and enjoy it, and it came so close to making the list... hey! I enjoy fifty other songs more. I don't think they're better written, more innovative, or more important, but there's so much Dream Theater to love, which means there's very little room for the stuff I just really like.

I worked it out by listing all the songs and deleting them one by one, in order of how happy I was to remove them. Every cut hurt by the time I'd whittled it down to eighty, so the last few were agonising, and A Change of Seasons came, quite dramatically, fifty-first. Had to choose between it and Six Degrees. Six Degrees won. A Change of Seasons is the better composition, hands down, but fuck that, it's my list and I like Six Degrees more.

I haven't written out a proper top 50 (at least, recently), but I did once go through and choose the songs I preferred to ACOS to see where it would land out of curiosity, and I recall it ended up in a pretty similar situation just outside top 50 (although SDOIT was about 50 places higher in my list )
I think it's a good song, but there's just too much else by DT that I think is much stronger.

Actually I've had an idea like that too - there could be a time limit (2 weeks is a pretty short time, maybe 4 would be better) and if you haven't completed your list by the time it ends, the next user in line can start their list. Having this time limit and 2 or 3 separate threads would prevent the lists from taking forever to finish.

Not much surprise here. As I told you the biggest surprise was probably In the Presence of Enemies.

Anyways, this song has been in my #2 spot for long but was recently bumped up here just because I can't deny that I think this song is a masterpiece. It would have been even higher (yeah, higher than 1, bitches) though if it didn't feature that long Pink Floyd intro. I mean it fits and it's awesome, but it's still there taking up like 5 minutes every time you listen to it. It's still good enough to land at number 1.

Not really, you were done with the first 40 songs in roughly two weeks and it took you another two get to through the last 10. Don't get me wrong, after the last few horrifyingly long lists, getting done with it in a month isn't too bad, if it weren't apparent that it was purposefully and disproportionately dragged out.
