Which song has the best Instrumental Section of 3+ mins?

Metropolis Pt. 1
Learning To Live (Not counting F# as vocals in this poll)
Beyond this Life
Blind Faith
The Great Debate (I'm not too sure if it counts but I'll add it anyway)
Endless Sacrifice
In The Name of God
Sacrificed Sons
The Dark Eternal Night
The Ministry of Lost Souls
A Nightmare to Remember
Outcry
Breaking All Illusions

Excluding the epics and any instrumental songs. Just curious. Tell me if I'm missing any.

Learning to Live (guitar solo + WFS reprise)!

Honourable mentions to Great Debate, In the Name of God, Breaking All Illusions and Metropolis!

The Silent Cody

Voted for Metropolis but that was though decision! I love The Ministry Of The Lost Souls instrumental section too. Blind Faith is awesome... I would pick many more if I could :)

Where's Trial Of Tears? And most of FII and Awake for that matter?

Metropolis.

Always really loved the one in Endless Sacrifice too, but Metropolis just beats everything. Really enjoying the BAI effort too.

One I've never really got into that much is Blind Faiths (which is currently winning the poll). I don't have any specific reason for not enjoying it as much as many others - it's just never really clicked with me for some reason.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

None of the songs have over 3 minute instrumental sections. Very close though.

BRGM

Went wiht Outcry, though I must say that Blind faith and Beyond this life has some pretty awesome instrumental sections as well.

Jirpo

Metropolis... very close with Blind Faith, Endless Sacrfice and the last two.

Vajra

As much as I love Metropolis's and Blind Faith's instrumental, the one for Endless Sacrifice just has such killer riffs that are awesome to just rock along to. Was one of the highlights of seeing DT live my first time.

?

Metropolis, BF, TGD, ITNOG, Outcry and BAI all have great instrumental sections, but Learning to Live is the best for me; not that shreddy but there are great melodies and interesting rhythm changes.

I don't think of music this way, and don't have the time to time out my favorite instrumental sections.

Yes, but now it's been done for you and laid out on a plate, which do you like best? ;)

And also, when are you going to start your top 50? ;D

(Incidentally, I chose Blind Faith.)

I gave the first vote to The Great Debate and I don't know why. Instrumentally, this song is absolutely awesome. While it doesn't hold up against the technical stuff in for instance Metropolis (which I would have chosen in a poll based on technicality), the instrumental section in The Great Debate does a lot for me, creating a great atmosphere.

turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

MetropolisxPt1

WFS reprise easily! More emotion then any dt song or section ever.

Outcry. Other ones that came close are Breaking all Illusions, Metropolis, Endless Sacrifice, and The Dark Eternal Night.

nikatapi

Metropolis Pt.1 has probably the most enjoyable instrumental section between the choices given.

This totally. Metropolis and Learning to Live not being considered epics is a pretty absurd thing.

I was gonna point this out, but didn't for fear of another "wutsanepic" argument. :lol

I think that since it is so subjective, most people when either explicitly including or excluding "epics" should define what that means in context of their poll/thread.

For instance, I would consider LTL an epic and ANTR definitely not, but not everyone would think that way.

I'd call neither an epic, but I generally strictly leave "epic" to only include the 20+ minute songs (not sure if I count TCOT).
Not that song length is at all a deciding factor in what truly is "epic", but I find the entire differentiation to be arbitrary and pointless at best anyway, so if I have to make the distinction as far as DT is concerned, I've just chosen an arbitrary line of 20 minutes and will stick to it. :lol
