So MP, i'm going to play your parts left handed. Then right handed with added cymbal strokes. Then lefthanded again, then ambidextrous fills, then left handed again. Your move.

Ok. We don't have to be in your face about it, but it was pretty awesome.

Those cymbal hits -  :omg:  :hefdaddy  :omg:  :hefdaddy

I remember that on Metropolis Portnoy couldn't play that tom part with the cymbal... Mangini did though.

Amazing technique.

Still, it bothers me that he's changing parts that are integral to the song (e.g.: the ride pattern during the chorus). I'm totally fine with messing around with some non-essential parts, but I'm not a fan of changing lines that are ingrained in most fans' heads; then again, it could just be me.

He said up front he'd throw his spin on things. This shouldn't be surprising to anyone, honestly. And the changed parts are either equally as good or better. The only thing is you have to get used to a new pattern or part here and there. No big deal for DT fans.  :tup

Yep same here, I'm just to happy with his technique that I don't care about the changed parts.

MP: Why are you laughing?

MM: Because I know something you do not know.

MP: And what is that?

MM: I can play left-handed.

No disrespect. One of the posts reminded me of The Princess Bride. I think they are BOTH phenomenal musicians.  :hefdaddy

I don't think there is any reason to disrespect MP or any other drummers, or set up some kind of competition.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Like I stated, I wasn't meaning to be disrespectful. It was meant as a joke. I own 2 of Portnoy's instructional DVD's, and have the utmost respect for him. Sorry if I offended anyone.
