Edit: for the record, Thiago is a good guy who also made an observation, and barely commented on his personal opinion about it.
He very much did so, and that's why he's banned from this forum. Tried to force his opinion on people, insulted everyone who didn't agree, and look where that got him.

Well to TBH, I didn't read past about the second page of that thread. What I noticed at the beginning was that his observation was attacked by a few who didn't understand or hear the similarities for whatever reason. If he tried to push that opinion on others, he shouldn't have. I hope no one thinks I'm trying to do that here. But like it or not, certain techniques on any instrument tend to be associated with particular genres or skill levels of playing. Country music tends to use a panatonic scale and doesn't vary from it. If country fans are insulted by that, I'm sorry, but it's just a fact. Wide open hi-hats on eight notes are usually, but not always, associated with either beginning drummers, or punk rock. There's a huge difference between saying that something MM plays sounds "amateurish" because of this association, and saying that MM is an amateur because he chose to play it. One is an observation of his performance, the other is a personal insult (unless of course the individual in question is an amateur, which is obviously not the case here). I just find it odd that the former doesn't seem to be tolerated at all, and the mere observation of the fact that this technique has the association is labeled as snobbery. Does that also mean my observation that MM's dotted eighth notes on the ride are associated with jazz makes me a snob as well? I'm just stating a fact that has absolutely nothing to do with snobbery or elitism - I apologize if it seems that way. I've said several times now that it's "an odd choice," not bad, not crappy, not stupid, not unskilled - just "odd." Maybe it has something to do with exposure to the finer points of drumming technique, but let's face it, drummers don't have much to brag about to begin with SO LET ME HAVE THIS ONE THING.  :'(

I'm sorry to say it, but some posters here sound like music snobs.

I also hate to say it...but, um...we're on a DT forum  :lol

Hey, I know it, I'm not a noob! BUT this bothers me none the less. :lol
