I don't think people expect literary brilliance with DT's lyrics; I know I don't.  But many find the lyrics to TCOT to be rather silly.  If you like them, then enjoy them, but just know that a lot of people are not fond of them.

That's definitely fair enough, I just feel they aren't detracting enough to take out of the music. To each his own  :hat

I think the majority of the song is more than strong enough musically to overlook the rather silly lyrics, but had the lyrics been even average or less silly, I'd probably think much more highly of the song.

Aramatheis

no problem with that

I just find that I listen to the song for the feel of it, and I don't really pay attention to the lyrics. I sing along, but I don't dwell on them, you know?

I love the tranquility from the pink-floydesque section
I love the desperation that comes across in the (admittedly shitty) chorus
the outro is one of the godliest things ever; every now and then I tear up while listening to it
and the intro is pretty sick

They are both GREAT, but the "ending" (last 10 min) of TCOT is the best piece of music ever written in history of mankind, so I'll have to go with that  :hefdaddy

I thought I opened to the Steve Jobs vs. Bill gates thread, then I read this and went "WTF is you, crazy?"

Agreed! Starting with that slow guitar solo (which, to me, is one of JP's most "emotional" in  a very dark way), that beautifully serene ambient section, and that euphoric ending.... those 10 minutes right there have got to be some of DT's most soulful work. Really quite touching.

I think my copy of TCOT is broken.. I've never heard that great ending that everyone is talking about! :neverusethis:

I think my sense of humor is broken.  Unimatrix's post had a ":neverusethis:", but I didn't see anything funny about it!

I voted for BAI.

I really like most of TCOT but after listening to ADTOE repeatedly pretty much since it came out and also listening to TCOT everytime I drive somewhere (since my son also loves that song and BC&SL is permanently inserted in my car... until my box set arrives), I noticed that the vocals, IMO, sound flat on TCOT. Not tone flat, just kind of lifeless compared to the vocals on BAI (and the rest of ADTOE). To me the vocals just sound smoother and easier to listen to on ADTOE. I can't say if it's the material, the delivery, the mixing, or a combination of the three (most likely) but I think James really shines on ADTOE.
