I just watched it. Mike was really deep in his answer and I felt bad for him.

And Mike, maybe you should try growing sideburns like Don there.  :P

Good episode, Mike said what I expected him to say and there's nothing wrong with that. All is said and done and hopefully everyone will get over it. I saw Adrenaline Mob at Jaxx in Virginia, and I'll be seeing Dream Theater this coming Monday. The music is what matters to me.

This is odd. Last time I said something negative about MP was that day the whole MP sued DT incident came out. I know that the whole thing is past its due, yet it still remains with that sour feeling... I think I was really neutral with the whole incident. First I was really sad that you left the band. The band seemed positive to continue. The inevitable "things won't work out without me" posts started to appear, the first Eddie Trunk exclusive interview with the whole biased point of view (really understandable because it literally just happened), then both parties started to give out their opinions, then the whole JLB incident... I could timeline everything, but I won't. I digress. I can't hate a former DT member who formed (along with two other current members) the band I've loved the most in my life. You've said it yourself on how special it is to feel as a fan of a band. It's weird, only fans understand each other.

Saying that it didn't hurt me, as a fan, that you sued the band and that I, as a fan, didn't took it personal would be hypocritical. I was angry at the moment, yes, but time passes by, a lot of water ran under the bridge... etc.

I'm amazed that you finally wanted to post here... and I'm also glad you did. I hope that we could get to see you here more often. Maybe answering the occasional question. Thanks.

Well, at least the image cut off before the comment section,
that's usually the worst part.

EDIT: I just thought it was funny how in the show, Mike says 'I pour my heart and soul out and it's reduced in these tiny headlines to stir up controversy... A DT without me breaks my heart, Oh God! There it is, the Blabbermouth headline!'

Then the next day, BLABBERMOUTH takes that very quote out of context... Does anyone else get the irony in that?  :lol

Typical for what passes as journalism nowadays.  I swear, the journalism schools should all be burned to the ground.  Same with the law schools.

Well, more on topic,
I thought it was hilarious when they were doing the pretentious "top 5 drummer" pick,
and Mike just pops up on stage and slaps his own name on number 1.
Also, when his other appearance on the show when he just popped up after the Dream Theater question, about what song and album did that black guy from Living Colour (At least I think that's where he's from) sing on. And asks his own question.
That made me happy, and laugh out loud.  :tup

This.

I have no problem whatsoever with what Blabbermouth do. Anyone who gets offended because the ex-drummer of a band they like was taken out of context by a entertainment news site is probably taking their entertainment too seriously. Anyone who actively seeks out said entertainment site's coverage time after time just to complain (when they know they're not going to like it anyway) is definitely taking their entertainment too seriously.

Blabbermouth can be ridiculous at times, but I'm genuinely glad that it's there. As a fan of heavy music, it's really nice that there's a site like that which brings everything together in one location.

Man... Trunk, Florentine and Jamieson are horrible. They're so bad.
I think they are pretty good. The show is horribly edited and it makes for some awkward transistions.
Part of the problem is whn they have a short segment and have fill it with news type item. The time delay renders it useless. I think Eddie asks good question of his guests.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I think the biggest problem with the show itself is the name.  Half of the bands they talk about I wouldn't even consider metal, but rather rock or hard rock.  And also, as a TV personality, Eddie looks like a great radio host.

Mike is a decent drummer and all, but he's far from the best. That list should've included Mangini if they're putting Portnoy, but we all know why that didn't happen. I guess that's why he thinks he's never in the wrong; the people that surround him exaggerately praise every single thing that he does.

Settle down dude, it was a joke. the catagory was Hard Rock Drummers which Mike would not even be in. They did it as a goof because he was the guest.

I like Eddie Trunk, but the other two guys don't always seem to know what they are talking about. I'm not always into the bands that they discuss, but it's cool to see Mike on there once and a while.

Yeah, it was a mistake for me to add fuel to the fire. Credit to Mike for saying lately that he wants to everyone to move on and focus positively on the future.

I hope the mystery bass player in the Sykes project is Tony Levin, that would rule.

I hope it's Billy Sheehan, but based on the style of music they say it is (basic hard rock) my guess it is neither, but for that Billy would be a better if then Levin. Not much stick playing in Sabbath type tunes.

Mike deleted a thread of LaBrie's tour dates on his forum saying he didn't want to publicise them after he saw a headline on Blabbermouth saying "LaBrie is not sad at all about Mike leaving" Without even hearing the interview and LaBrie was actually very respectful about him.
EDIT: Or do you mean Mike liking the hate comments about James being a terrible singer on facebook?

I thought this as well.  As ridiculously badass as it would be to have Billy Sheehan in on this, I think he'd be wrong for it.  I'm not able to imagine Sabbath/Zeppelin/Purple tunes, with a Billy Sheehan style of bass playing.  Billy is my fave, but it just doesn't seem like it would be quite right.

Interesting - thanks for the recap.

And did MP say something about JLB being a "jester" at one point?  Thought I saw something along those lines in this thread, but now I can't find it again...

I'm thinking Marco Mendoza. He worked with Sykes in Lizzy. Excellent groovy bass player and good backing singer. If they produce something like 1987 or Blue Murder I'll be seriously happy :metal
This is likely to be the post DT project of MP's that I'll be most interested in.

Yeah but you seem to enjoy internet drama.

I don't hate Blabbermouth's terrible journalism and shit-stirring in and of itself, because as you say I can just not go there. But it has become such a prominent entity in the metal community that OTHER people take it seriously, and start talking shit about people because of things they read on Blabbermouth. And that's when it pisses me off.

Find me a news site that doesn't take one headline-grabbing quote from an interview and use it to pull in readers by plastering it in large print as the hook.  Blabbermouth is no different from just about every other news site in that regard.

That might be, but their practice of having headline-grabbing quotes is pretty standard.  I think some just are turned off by Blabbermouth because of how vile the comments by the members there often are.  I suspect that it is a large reason why Portnoy always rips that site (since they are apparently pretty hard on him there).

I should point out, too, that I almost never go to Blabbermouth.

Well, I meant specifically picking quotes that make things sound as dramatic as possible. It's true that a lot of news sites do indeed do that, and are basically tabloids in website form, which is why I don't take any of them seriously either.
