I've gone through the many comparison threads that have been made since the new album has come out and a few opinions have struck me as kind of strange. Years ago, the majority of people could be seen listing their three favorites as the holy trinity (SFAM, I&W, Awake). But, in the new holy trinity thread, we have SDOIT listed several times and sometimes even ADTOE sneaking in for an honorable here or there.

So those threads have inspired this poll and how I want to see what everyone is thinking about their three favorite Dream Theater albums as those opinions are today. I realize this may have been done in the past, but I'm looking at the current view of the top 3 from the forum's perspective as of today.

There is an option for all 11 DT albums. You'll have three votes to select your three favorites according to your opinion. Hopefully after a while, we can see the general consensus on the top 3 DT albums here on the forum and maybe positions 4-11 on which some people with different opinions may think.

Get voting!

My personal three are:

SDOIT
I&W
SFAM

with ADTOE honorable mention in 4th.

#1 is definitely Images and Words.  That's beyond doubt.
#2 is Train of Thought.  I'm not completely positive of that anymore, but for now I still think of it as my second favorite.
#3 is... tougher.  Probably Scenes from a Memory, but Awake and ADTOE are decent contenders, too.

TheGreatPretender

1: Scenes From A Memory hands down.
2: Images and Words
3: It's a tie between Systematic Chaos and A Dramatic Turn of Events

I'd say those are the three most important albums for the band.
First of all they're all major "New Beginnings." The first one is LaBrie's first, second one is Rudess' first, and third one is Mangini's first.
Second, they're great milestones. Great displays of how far the band has come.
DT has changed a lot over the years, and if you listen album to album, it might not even seem like that much, because those changes are small, but over time they accumulate. And these three albums are great for measuring how much they've changed over the years.

IaW and ADTOE are very close though, with Awake right up there.

ADTOE and SDOIT are 4th and 5th, respectively. Though I rated SFAM higher, the individual songs on ADTOE and SDOIT are better than the individual songs on SFAM. The only reason it's rated higher, really, is because it feels like much more of a whole than the other two albums do.

Dr. DTVT

I&W and 6DoIT for sure.  ADToE or Awake is third.  I still feel it's too early to judge ADToE, it still has that new album feel.

1. SFAM
2. IAW
3. ADTOE   (A month ago, would've been tough to choose & I would've ended up picking Octavarium, but this album just blew me away)

SDOIT
SFAM
I&W

In that order. The more I listen to those albums, the more they just cement themselves in those top 3 spots. They all sound just as fresh and energetic and enjoyable as the first time I listened to them. DT certainly have songs on other albums just as good, but for whole albums, these are the "perfect" ones.

The Silent Cody

Images, Scenes and Awake, but ADTOE is just behind Awake now...
