Where is the "none" option? I prefer BC&SL

Then vote for BCASL, since it would be your favourite album since BCASL.
Oh, you're right. My bad

A lot of people seem to think ToT is when "new heavy-for-the-sake-of-it 'lame' DT" started. I disagree, I think that 8V/SC started the new style, and I love ToT. So I voted ToT.

7thHanyou

Octavarium.  Almost as good as that album, but not quite.  Meantime, it's miles ahead of the last two.

How so?  If anything, 8VM was an anomaly in the last four albums--it didn't focus on being heavy at all.  I'm not even sure it's as heavy as SDoIT.

I voted Train of Thought.

Just for the record, Train of Thought is my second favorite Dream Theater CD.
We are in 100% agreement as usual  :rollin
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

No, but Never Enough is on it, which is a start for the ridiculous lyrics and really commercial / "externally inspired" songs. I'm sure a lot of people don't agree with me, I love Octavarium the song but the rest of the album except maybe The Root of All Evil is nowhere near the level of ToT or SDOIT or anything before that. For me SC + Octavarium = SC and BCSL. MP switching to the single bass drum kit for that album is also the first sign he was getting bored.

Global Laziness

Like the majority of people here, I voted for Six Degrees.

Snow_Dog

Went with Octavarium on this, as I love that album. This one's damn good too.

You need to add an option for "best ever". I can't answer the poll the way it is.

How should I vote if I think it's their best?
Ok, I added an option for you two, plus others who like ADTOE the best.
Thanks!

Chaotic_AK

IMO, it's the best album since Train of Thought (since it was the album that got me into DT)

Jaq

SFAM. While I still like SDOIT, it's not as good as ADTOE to me. (Mind you, I think TGP might very well be DT's most overrated song, so you can feel free to toss my opinion aside as you see fit  :lol )

Metropolis Pt. II

:omg: I didn't realize how "old" SFAM is now, relative to their catalogue. It's before the halfway-mark in their album releases now. Freakin' wow.

tristl

its hard for me to say because i like them all,
but just now its my nummber two behind I&W.
i listened to it at least 30 times and now its in the random mix with al lthe other DT albums and for me it holds up brilliantly.

Scooterfruit

Went with Scenes... Because I like it a bit better than SDOIT but SFAM is my favourite. Fantastic album.

The Letter M

Went with the majority here - since SDOIT. I like TOT, it's good for being what it was set out to be, and 8VM is pretty damn good, but it didn't top SDOIT. Then SC and BC&SL were good, about as good as TOT, and in some spots a bit worse, but I'd say ADTOE is at level with SDOIT, so it's their best since then! Took them a decade but hey, it was worth the wait :tup

mooshinator

I have a hard time ranking SDoIT because it's a double album.  If I could take my favorite 70 minutes of SDoIT, it might give any other DT album a run for its money, but as it stands right now I feel like the album is a bit bloated and there are parts I don't care for.

ADToE is rare in that it is one of 4 DT albums where, in my opinion, every song is good (along with I&W, Awake, SFAM).  So I have a hard time comparing 70ish minute albums where I like every single moment, versus 2 hour albums where it feels bloated but I could pretty easily pull out 70 minutes worth of material that could stand up quite easily to the former.

So I dunno, I went with SFAM. :)

HarlequinForest

I think it's their best album since Six Degrees.  It's the first one since then that doesn't have several weak tracks that makes me want to skip over half the album.

SnakeEyes

Initially, I was going to choose Six Degrees and then I chose SFAM because I remembered the "inspiration corner" thing.  Six Degrees was the first album where you can hear them blatantly trying to copy other bands.  ADTOE is the first album where they don't do that.  So, therefore, it's the best album since SFAM, to me, because SFAM was the last album before Six Degrees that they didn't do that, either.

Tis BOOLsheet

i honestly think this is one of their top 3 albums. i really think this is a return to the more prog metal style of images-change of seasons-awake. the only disappointment was build me up. this is the life isnt so hot either but whatever. angels, lost not forgotten, bridges, illusions..all those songs are more than i even anticipated. DT is BACK.

New album is not better than BC&SL.

100% serious. I don't see how BC&SL being better than ADTOE is anything close to being considered a troll response.

MasterShakezula

Definitely the best since 8.

Perhaps even the best since 6.

I'd say it's definitely in my top five and possibly my top 3.  More time will tell whether that's the case.

needless to say you are entitled to your own opinion. i just think its absolutely insane and absurd and could write 5 pages on why i disagree.

While I don't agree with him, I don't think it's at all insane or absurd. I'm not sure that any song on ADTOE is ranked higher than TCOT or ANTR for me.

Progmetty

It's pretty funny that BC&SL is on the list considering there's no albums between it and ADTOE :lol

Fluffy Lothario

Best since 6DOIT, which is my favourite.
