Who else thinks is the most classy song on the album? For me, it is, top to bottom.  :hefdaddy :hat

I agree with you without a doubt. So fucking good.

I think it's the most well rounded song on the album.  There are 3 masterpieces on this album for me, BAI, BITS and Outcry.  Matter of fact for me...this is the first album with 3.  Most on any other album is 2.

Definitely a class act. I loved the choruses at first listen, but everything else is awesome too. Especially the guitar solo when everything mellows out. He just has a little bit of gain on it so that it's nice and clean when he plays softly, but when he starts putting more and more feeling into it, it gets a little bit gritty. That, mixed with the soulful playing...I didn't even really notice this spot of the song until about my third listen; it's like it came from out of nowhere and just grabbed me! I have a feeling I'm in for a lot of moments like that on this album. So, so good!

Breaking All Illusions is my absolute favorite on the new album. Its everything a progressive epic from Dream Theater should be! Not to mention it is lyrically powerful, unlike Count of Tuscany which was lacking in that department despite being a very awesome song.

What the flying eff does "classy" even mean today?

That opener is the exact thing I think of everytime I hear that word!

When the chorus plays for the first time, Manginis drums are a

mazing

Also, there is a part that sounds like a Rocky montage, you know what im talking about ;) It sounds awesome too.

My favourite on the album. Can't get enough!

What about Metropolis Pt 1, Under a Glass Moon, and Learning to Live?

For me, that would be Metropolis Pt. 1 and Learning to Live. UAGM is probably my least favourite song on I&W, but it's still obviously a good song.

As for BAI, easily my favourite on the album. I love the way it builds into the FFH theme at the end. Also I noticed another possible reference to FFH.

During the "living the moment" verse, in the last few bars, where he says "my spirit brings me home", try to fit "there's no end" from FFH into there. A little odd, since that part of FFH is in 4/4, where as in BAI it's 3/4, but I'm pretty sure it's a vague reference. I originally noticed in an 8-bit rendition of BAI.

Best song on the album, definitely. It might even be a Top 15 DT song for me (right now anyway). Who knows in about a year from now?

I liked it so much, I did a drum cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhBOfVw8fLQ
Hey great job man! Would you like to share it in higher quality? Pretty please?

Chaotic_AK

In my opinion, it is definitely the best song on the entire album. And it seems everyone here agrees. I love the beginning riff, very classic Dream Theater. What I love it about it is it's the first song that had lyrics written or co-written by JM in a long time since SFAM. :)

I love all the riffs in this song- you can sing them too. The instrumental part is awesome and that bluesy solo! :heart
Hopefully we'll get the stems to this one too. Looking forward to that.

As much as I love BITS and LNF...BAI is easily my favorite from the album and has already solidified its spot in my top 5 DT songs of all time. Absolutely love the song because of the variety of emotions it can take you through. The opening Guitar/Key unison shoots adrenalene through me every time I hear it (that's why I think it'd be a perfect set opener :metal) and from there if you allow yourself you can be taken on a nice journey.

I just listened to BAI four consecutive times. I seriously think it is the most perfect song they ever wrote. I really like the whole new album, it is up there with I&W, SFAM and Awake and better than SDOIT and Octavarium (my second tier, which I really dig too...) but it somehow feels like they brought their A+ game for BAI...

It flows so nicely but it is really unpredictable... I think this is what makes it so good.

Metrovarium

If I decided to do another song ranking, BITS and BAI would probably be in my top 10 as of right now, and I couldn't see them drop past the top 15 at the very most.

SnakeEyes

Might be the best song on the album, in my opinion.  Not sure yet.  The verse is filled with such emotion.

Tis BOOLsheet

it does resemble learning to live in a way that makes me feel like they tried to do it

m0hawk

That riff that starts the second verse  :metal :metal :metal
Best riff on the album.

Metabog

It's the top listened/rated DT song on Spotify.  And that's above all the single from previous albums.

You mean Metropolis Pt. 2, Surrounded, Learning to Live, Take The Time  and Under a Glass Moon.

This thread makes my chakra feel good.

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I really love the section that starts with "Burning source of heat..", I believe are the lyrics and it ends with "..changing my direction". Gets me erry time.
