"Crossing bridges in the sky
To a journey to renew my life
Shaman take my hand"
This and the instrumental passage after it blew me away when I first heard them. There's lots of great moments on the album, but this is already one of my favourite sections of their whole discography  :coolio
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Tumdace

"Feed the illusion you dream about, cast out the monsters inside, life begins with an empty slate, fragile left in the hands of fate "

antigoon

Right after the bass groove in Lost Not Forgotten. The "the greatest story never told" part up until the chorus. I can't believe that only comes around once.

Jamesman42

The full BITS chorus, but especially "the FABRIC of REALITY is TEAAAARRRRRING apart!" and the way JLB sings "Crossing bridges in the skyyyyy"
\o\ lol /o/

HarlequinForest

"Crossing bridges in the sky" is my favorite part on the album.

Although it's not nearly my favorite song on the album, I also love "I have done what you asked of me..." and subsequent string instrument melody on Far From Heaven.

theseoafs

Maybe I'm just so into the idea of a new Myung epic, but whenever I think of ADTOE I think of "Searching out, reaching in".

"until one day I stopped caring......... AND BEGINN TO FORGETTTTT WHY I LONGED TO BE SO CLOSE...."

The first time I listened to it. When that little pause before the phrase came, I just expected that the octave would be changed and  it was, and I was just wowwww.... that is it !!  :):)

Yeah, I have to say this is the one moment that happily caught me off guard and I was like  :omg:  There are other parts that are totally incredible IMHO (chorus to BMUBMD, snippet section of BAI, main opening riff in LNF), but that part in BTS is the one for me.

Me too. Gets me every time.

N4Player

?

Some of these four:
Bridges in the Sky chorus or the part where JP's first riff starts
"Embrace the days..." in Breaking All Illusions
The final chorus in Beneath the Surface

Dat funky section (5:20ish) in Breaking All Illusions.

I want to hear a 10 minute song based on that groove.

^^THIS!!!!!!!

SnakeEyes

I can't pinpoint a specific part, but one of my favorite parts is a very small part of the album:  in the last chorus for "On the Backs of Angels," Mangini starts playing double time on the snare, if I remember correctly, where he had been dragging the time out to half time feel in all the other choruses.  And, he only does it at the very end of the chorus.  It's really awesome how he does that.  Probably JP's idea, but still great.

Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

Musically,YES - lyrically, NO.  The melody and delivery are amazing.  I really hate the lyrics.  "Shaman take my hand"?  It sounds like a really bad early 90's horror movie.  I just hate the whole concept of the song, but that "Shaman take my hand part" is the worst part of the album, in my opinion.  It reminds me of why people say that DT writes songs about dragons and wizards.  I know they don't do that exactly, but this certainly gives people ammunition.

There are a LOT of things to choose from, but right now for me, it is the chorus of BITS.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Areola

- The part right before the instrumental section in Breaking all Illusions and the whole instrumental section
- As Kev already said, when the band kicks in on Bridges in the Sky
- Breaking all Illusions chorus
- The Quiet part in Breaking all Illusions, with Rudess creepy key sounds starts, 1:31 - 1:46 and onwards to James starts singing
- The piano solo in OTBOA
- Shaman take my haaaaaaand
- The intro to Lost not Forgotten, until the solo section in the beginning.
- Outcry's instrumental section, it finally clicked.

can't think of more right now.

On "Breaking All Illusions", since I heard it on the snippet:

"Searching out
Reaching in
To arrive
Where I began
Sights remembered
In the light"

I just freaking love that single moment :hefdaddy
Probably this.

But so many incredible moments on the album...

and the chorus on breaking all illusions as well

SHAMMAAN TAAAKKKEEE MYY HAAANNNDD!!!! (first time around)

Easily this  :tup

why the first time round? the riff it transitions to is so much less epic than the one it goes into the second time (i.e. the intro/outro theme, which would be my personal favourite part of the record).  The riff and orchestral melody over it is so symphony x (and also the circusy sound reminds me of circus maximus. all of these are bonuses for me

nikostheater

All of the moments that you mentioned guys are exceptional,i would like to add though the guitar solo from This Is The Life.. so beautiful...

jcmistat

BITS intro, Sun/Wind chorus, Shaman take my haaaaaaand.

There's so many part I like already.

Scooterfruit

Can I just vote for Breaking All Illusions?
;D

If not, I love the choir at the beginning of Bridges in the Sky. Beautiful.

RuRoRul

Soft piano part after the end of the Outcry instrumental section.
Breaking All Illusions intro, particularly the chorus melody.
Breaking All Illusions chorus (and the part before it). Basically that one minute sample of Breaking All Illusions was one of the best moments in the entire album. Also, several parts from the Breaking All Illusions instrumental.
Beneath The Surface final chorus.

Obviously there are loads of great individual moments, don't think I have a single favourite right now but the ones above are the ones that come to mind.

CrimsonE

I've gotta say the JP solos in TITL especially the main blues-tinged, as well as JR's pre-Verse 2 solo.

Chimpi

If I could pick one, well, then this just wouldn't be as awesome of an album as it is, would it?  :tup

(musically) Breaking All Illusions: Atmospheric chorus transition into crunchy guitar riff at 3:39 - 3:42.
(lyrically) Bridges In The Sky: chorus, but especially the inclusion of the extended chorus at 6:44.
(musically and lyrically) Far From Heaven:  2:35 - 3:21.  The build-up throughout the song to this moment is purely satisfying.
(musically and lyrically) Beneath The Surface:  3:19 - 4:19.  As with FFH, the build-up throughout the song to this moment (even though it's pre- epic chorus ending) is truly gratifying.

WindMaster

Either the main riff of Breaking All Illusions. (the one played on the synth before the first chorus)
The instrumental build up of SHAAAAMAAN, TAAAKE MMMYYYY HAAAAAAAAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or the epic riff after the first time of SHAAAAMAAN, TAAAKE MMMYYYY HAAAAAAAAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I'm pretty indecisive. I like the whole album except for LNF, which hasn't clicked, and I don't think it ever will.

Anyway,  :metal :metal :metal

Yes! Yes! Great solo!

tri.ad

I have two so far:

- The BITS chorus
- The last section of the BAI instrumental section.

I always smile (literally, you dirty-minded fools) when I hear that.
