At 5:22 - 5:23 during the drum fill you can hear a really loud thud that sounds like someone dropped a microphone.

Dellers

I haven't noticed it before, but now that you made me aware of it...I definitely hear it, and yeah it's really loud.

BlobVanDam

At first I was going to say it was the double kicker, but after repeated listens I hear the noise you mean.
It sounds like a random drum that MM is hitting as part of that crazy fill, but it sounds so different to the rest of the toms in the fill and sticks out once you point it out.

So my guess is that it's a drum that doesn't quite fit into the mix, rather than a mistake.

Maybe he hit the drum mic :P

BlobVanDam

It wasn't a mistake. It was prog. He was experimenting with new sonic techniques.

Well it was worth a shot.

It was a good shot.  :)  I lol'd.

This is maybe not a case of bad editing but rather poor execution and writing but when they come back to the chorus in Breaking All Illusions after the long instrumental section, it sounds really weird and forced. It doesn't really fit. It's like when they come to the chorus in A Nightmare to Remember, it just sounds really weird.

Eh you guys cannot hear it? It's pretty damn loud.

Priest of Syrinx

Wow, FlashCE, I had to listen to that segment 5x to catch it, but I finally did.  Great pickup!  :tup

Tumdace

Sorry, just listened to it like 10 times, cant hear anything out of the ordinary.

OsMosis2259

I listened like 15 times. I dont hear anything.

The only thing weird thing I hear is still the click track that's on the left channel for ON THE BACKS OF ANGELS (3:25)

obscure

I gave thousand listens... all I hear is perfection :p

ResultsMayVary

I don't really hear it. You must have a defective copy! :P

I always thought that was just string noise from the guitar.

I'm sure my time stamp is right if other people can hear it. It's during the drum fill. It's in the center of the stereo field by the way.

Zook

Ah I heard it. It's like a small pop. Nothing serious though. Nothing like that thud in Symphony X's Domination.

theanalogkid7

I've got a good set of studio monitors and headphones and cannot hear anything that sounds out of place.  Would it be against board rules to post that small clip for comparison?

Adami

It's perfectly in time and not loud at all. No clue why anyone is complaining about it.

FsF

Heard it after a few listens, it's not masisvely noticable, but it is there. However, I think it's actually an aggressive bass slide from Myung. Assuming we're hearing the same thing here, that is. Either way, it is a bit of a pop, which surely should've been spotted.

While I had the headphones on listening for that, I noticed something else I hadn't before. James menacingly says "DOWN" at 5:51, as his two other vocal tracks are fading out. Now I won't be able to listen to the song without hearing the pop, and imagining James' angry face, looking like in the ATBOA video on those skyscrapers.

I don't even hear it. What's the thud in Domination then?

Can't hear anything! :(

It's in the middle of the drum fill. It's like a BOFF sound like someone kicked a microphone.

Kotowboy

I hear a crack in one of the other tracks too. On one channel. Might be Outcry.

Kotowboy

6:45 in Outcry there is a weird crack. Sounds like a drum also.
