Wait, hold on.  Don't just click back out of the thread.  Give this a chance.  I'm not saying at some point they had a discussion where they said "let's secretly write lyrics for song eight that are a continuation of track five and let the fans figure it out."  But...

Taken as a whole, the lyrics for ADTOE are mostly about personal transformation (BITS, BAI), the ways people's true selfs are oppressed (OTBOA, BMUBMD, Outcry, FFH), and what happens when you find clarity (TITL, BTS).

Whether it's in a more general thematic sense, or whether there was a loose attempt at narrative, obviously the lyrics on the album are meant to relate with each other.  Which brings us to BITS and BAI.

BITS is a bit weird narratively.  At the end, it seems like the character is about to find what he needs.  But just as the lyrics go "Shaman take my hand" the second time, it drops back into a darker version of the seven string riff and ends.  You don't find out if the character actually remembered life or crossed any bridges.  It's a bit of a downer.

But remember the first line in the chorus?  "Sun, come shine my way."  What's the first line in BAI?

"With the sun in place"

And, JP co-wrote it with JM.

I don't know what JP and JM were trying to achieve artistically, I wasn't there.  But also consider that BAI also alludes to the idea of trying to find home again, which is a major component of Bridges in the Sky.  There seems to be a deliberate attempt to have the two songs share imagery.  Why couldn't they be two songs about trying to find yourself at different stages of the journey?

Did JP actually co-write it, or was it more a case of editing JM's poetry into lyrics that fit the song? I don't think I've seen anything that clarifies it anywhere.

Anyway, what you said is possible, but not likely I think.

It's a co-credit, which has never happened before even though Myung never wrote his own vocal melodies.

I don't want to imply that it was secretly a collaboration and we were just told they were Myung lyrics because it would be positive press.  I just think that given the shared imagery JP might have suggested some tweaks to the lyrics to make them what they are in order to fit into the broader themes of the album.

Yeah something like that sounds pretty reasonable. Kind of a "nice lyrics, but how about we throw in this reference to BITS here" type affair.

If that is what happened, it's pretty cool. Those two are definitely the standouts on the album. Two 10/10 songs in my opinion!

It's certainly an interesting thought.

I was thinking about the same thing. In fact, wanted to create a post on this same topic. I definitely saw some lyrical & thematic similarities.

Additionally, the metaphoric "Take me home" line too, is present in both songs.

Could be, I'm going to listen to them a few times and dig for gold.  The lyrics really scream myung to me,
so I doubt it's a marketing scheme....

Thanks for your contribution.

Interesting idea, Reap.

Definitely makes the album better after reading this and thinking about it, great catch  :lol

The Dark Master

It's possible, I suppose.  Maybe JP and JM both decided to write lyrics around the same theme and tie them together, perhaps?

At any rate, those are so far my two favourite songs from the new album, so it would be a rather interesting coincidence if they were intertwined lyrically/thematically as well.

Additionally, Bridges in the Sky deals with a person trying to find himself with the help of a Shaman, and undoubtedly goes into a sort of... mental trip, or illusion, if you will.

Then, in the TITLE of the song Breaking All Illusions, you have "Illusions"
And, at the end of the first verse, James sings the lyrics "Breaking all Illusions"

Maybe, if both songs are connected thematically, Breaking All Illusions is about.. Breaking all the Illusions from the Shaman's trance that was sang about in Bridges in The Sky, and finally finding himself.

BlobVanDam

It sounds like coincidence to me, and not enough of a connection to be related imo.
But Reap, these are definitely some interesting ideas that aren't too far fetched. Best ADTOE conspiracy yet. :tup

Infinite Cactus

Interesting. I like how interpretation of lyrics has now become "conspiracy." :lol. This is really neat to think about. Not to mention JP said that the album was about the world changing and conflict etc. So it's very possible.
