Is anyone else saving up for a Mk V since hearing ADTOE?

I am.  From what I've read he used it exclusively on this album, and I'm f#%@ing sold on it.
Do stores still do layaway?????

Cleans are pristine, grind is great as usual, a little less scooped (but this could be the mix)
Everything I hear out of it is just blowing my mind.   Is this OT for the forum?

Just getting the same amp isn't going to get you the tone.  :P There's an industry worth of work done on getting this tone, both in the recording stage and the mixing stage, not to mention the powerful bass guitar driving it.

What's an Mk V and what does it have to do with ADTOE?

people don't want the same tone. they want the same TOOOOOOOOOONE

The tone isn't only in the amp and guitar etc, a lot is in his fingers. I swear to you, if he picked up and crap guitar through a crap amp- he'd still sound amazing.

Still love my MkIIc but it could use a "little" brother.

I bought a Mark V and 4x12 Mesa cab in May 2010.    AWESHUM amp.  You can do anything with it.  :censored well. almost anything I suppose.

I didn't realize he was going Mark V only on this record. That makes me happy.   In the Spirit Carries On Drummer Auditions, I didn't see the Mark V, and I was worried that he moved away from it.
It wouldn't totally surprise me if he did, some people just don't like it as much. But then again, he did do some promotion with it, and some Youtube videos and such.   So I guess he really Really likes it.

I know I wouldn't trade my Mark V for another amp.  Not at this moment.

Mark V for the WIN everybody.

I should be getting my Mark V before the end of the month. I need it soon too cause my band is gonna start gigging.

Ahh I can't get over the sounds that puppy can make! And I also thought the 'solo' button on the footswitch was a really thoughtful thing to include by the designers. haha.  :tup

I thought that he also used a IIC+ for this album.....

i have a really tight budget , so instead of dishing out 6k to get a mark v and an axe fx , i went with a the POD HD500, jesus christ the HD amp modeling is spectacular , you cant even tell the difference between the real thing, not to mention the 100+ fx and free block fx.

best $500 i have ever spent

but too bad the only mesa boogie modulation is the dual rectifier , but still , its awesome!

Not for that price.

I'm *more* than happy with my Blackstar HT Stage 100 Head and 4x12 Cab for now :)

A Mk. V is a type of guitar amplifier, more commonly known as a Mesa/Boogie Mark V. They are very expensive and John Petrucci has used Mesa/Boogie amps exclusively over the past godIdon'tknowhowmany years.

On topic; nah, I won't be getting one. The tone is great, but I'm more than happy with my ENGL Fireball and Marshall MF400 cab  :)
Besides, the thing is way too expensive for me to afford.

Not to derail this thread, but does anyone have ANY idea as to what gear JMX used for this album (apart from his nunchaku and katana)?

I heard he just put strings on Jesus and played him for the album... not 100% sure though. ;)

If I had the money, I would be definitely torn between the Mk V, MkIIC+ and the SLO100.
Has anybody here tried comparing how the Mk V sounds to the MkIIC+ here? I was only able to try the MkIIC+ for a month and boy does it take a while to get that sweet spot. I was trying to get a good tone out of it for days, until I said fuck the neighbors. Cranked it and tone heaven.  ;)

If I had the dough, i'd get the Blackstar S1 200 watt head & 4x12.

Heard Gus G play one at a Blackstar clinic.

:omg: That tone...........
