Awesomeness.  I love how the band keeps is nice and simple underneath while he solos for around six or seven minutes, but never really going off into wankville. ;)  And the section early on (starts at 5:57 of the mp3 I ripped of it) where it sounds like he is channeling Alex Lifeson's playing at the beginning of Xanadu is :hefdaddy :hefdaddy.

Agree  :tup

But there's a GDT release where the band delivers an even greater final jam in To Live Forever. Guitar is never enough!  :hefdaddy

Love that section, Kev.  IIRC, on the DVD commentary he goes into great detail about how that section grew on the tour and what other bands/songs/musicians he is channeling during that solo.  Great stuff.

My favorite moment of the entire DVD. I always found JP had more interesting solos back in the Ibanez days versus now.

I do love this solo a lot but something has always bothered me about it. From 2:27 - 2:30 he plays a little jingle from like a comercial or something in the late 80's/90's and I have never been able to figure out wtf it is. Anyone know what that's from?

I'll have to listen to that again, as I don't remember any of what he said.

Are you sure it's a jingle?  It just sounds like a little bit of improv.

Such a well constructed & tasteful solo piece. What's also great is how the rest of the band gives JP space and a canvass to really be dynamic.

I remember him playing a bit of Within You Without You (The Beatles) and Had A Dad (Jane's Addiction) weaved into that solo.

OMG! I finally found it! I believe it is a short reference to the coca cola commercials. I'd like to buy the world a coke to keep it company.. or something. This is a much slower version than the one that was popular in the 90's. But I'm almost positive he is referencing that because it was a very popular commercial at the time.

Awesome section. I remember thinking it was pretty cool that they were playing To Live Forever, then suddenly the solo comes on and I was like, "WHOA! What is THAT!?"  :tup

nikostheater

Amazing section! I can't help but be amazed by Myung also, I LOVE his playing here..

I really love how it is JP taking the section as his while the rest of the band backs him up, instead of him having to trade solos back and forth, which they'd probably do with a section like that nowadays.  And the fact that he never really wanks it up with shredding, instead focusing on melody and just getting off on a certain vibe. :tup :tup
