such a down to earth guy. Seems like a great person to talk to and is so passionate about being part of the band and with his fans. He must have been great to have as a professor.

I'm a big fan of Mangini.  I'm a fangini.  He is exactly what this band needed and you can hear it in the responses of the other band members when they talk about him in various interviews.  He's revitalized the band and given them newfound enthusiasm, energy and passion.  It's wonderful to see, and I thank him for being the perfect piece that DT needed to carry on.

couldn't be happier for him. after mp left it was important they got someone who was really interested in being a part of this band and understood the style and direction of the music. he's also not too bad at playing the drums  ;D

He has the spirit.

Watching DT live this summer i have to say that despite how good a drummer MM is ,he doesnt have that monstrous drum sound that MP had..I really missed that sound live..I preferred that noisy cymbal that Portnoy used instead of the tiny closed hi-hat that MM used at choruses and heavy parts to groove! But thats just my opinion..

I'll have to wait to see him for another month to agree with you.  From listening to all the interviews though, I'm not surprised.  Seems like he, and the band, want to be more balanced.  I have no problem with that as long as he's "There"

At least in my country watching Mangini performing songs like Forsaken,The great debate and Endless Sacrifice his groove just...didnt move you..And you could tell that from the crowd too. His sound is more tight with less headroom which sounds kinda awkward to me compared to what we got used to MP on previous live performances..MM's hi hat didnt let me headbang for example in 09:08 part of Endless Sacrifice..

I've seen DT in Verona, and MM's dynamics are beautiful, you can hear how he play in the pocket and how he let the song breath, for sure he's less "ballsy"! go check some UAGM video and you'll see..

fleaman

He was definitely in the pocket! He was just lacking that boost that will make you want to get into the song and feel it..

Hmmm....  I guess I'll have to judge for myself.  I hear what you're saying, just hope it doesn't detract from the songs for me.

He seems so normal. It seems like he just loves life in general, and the DT gig is just a kick as bonus. I really like this interview.
