does anyone else find it awkward when ever they play live, and the members start to play to each other?

like labrie singing to jp ,

or jmx and jp facing each other

i dono , it just feels very weird and awkward because most of the time they remain emotionless and concentrated on their playing

ill try to find a video or could any kind soul help me, they always do it at live performances

Nope. I like it. Even if they're focusing on their playing and not responding, I like the band interaction. And there are some great examples of it too. Like JM getting behind the drum kit and playing next to MP. Or JP and JM playing to each other on Score (during Octavarium, I think?).

Sure, there are going to be a few moments where it falls flat, which happens with music that complex where you need to focus. But sometimes it really raises a performance to a new level, like seeing LaBrie singing into Petrucci's ear, and Petrucci does his rock face nod like "that's right bitches, we rule".

Not really, occasionally JLB will put his arm around JP (like on Score) and it's kinda funny but it's not awkward.

I think it was during Surrounded, on the Systematic Chaos tour. You can see it on the Chaos in Motion DVD, or you can check out some bootlegs on Youtube of Surrounded from that tour.

I always thought if I was playing bass and JLB came up behind me and put his arm around me it would scare the heck out of me. I don't feel it's awkward to watch though.

Not at all. I like it when they interact with each other.

Nope, it's pretty funny sometimes actually. When I saw them in Leeds JLB put him arm around JM, then when he took his arm off he pointed at him with both hands, as if to say "He's the shit."

Sketchy

I think it's funny when they do it. I like it.

Lowdz

Nowhere near as weird as Gene Simmons wiggling his tongue at members of KISS or Rudy Sarzo licking his bass like it's a cock so no, it's just you probably!

wolven74

I always found it awkward when they didn't. Aren't bands supposed to interact with each other? To me its a sign of a fresh outlook from the band. They aren't lost in MP's "SHOWman's trance."

See what I did there?   :lol

John94

I love it. It shows the band are united. I love how Myung even sticks around by Mangini for a bit now. I especially loved seeing Jordan and the Johns side by side during one of their songs in an instrumental break. Reminded me of Judas Priest, but still, unity.

I must add, I saw a couple of live videos from the European Tour and in a single video, the band looked more united and brushed up to each more times in a single clip than in the concert I was at (aside from JP and JMX moving to the centre)

IJewBear

I can't remember which video of this tour it was, but I remember seeing JP, JM, and JR all rocking out side by side. It was really cool to see.

Chino

I don't find it awkward. It's not like DT is the first band to ever do that. You want to see awkward, watch some Steel Panther live performances.

Seconded.

yeshaberto

I love the comraderie it demonstrates

Chrissalix

As a musician, it's a massive fuck yeah factor when you do it so from DT's point of view it would be the total opposite.

I thought their name was Bobaflex... Either way, they were terrible. Easily one of the worst performances I have ever seen.

It happened in Athens August 2

The only thing that's semi-awkward is the JM/JP thing where they stand in front of each other with maybe a foot of separation.  I always feel like one day one of them is going to peck the other on the cheek or something.

In Under a Glass Moon on Score they reach over and strum each other's instrument  ;D

Aniland, is that you?

Seriously, I don't find it awkward at all.

This exactly. I love seeing James singing next to JP, especially during some difficult sections. John's facial expressions tend to help him.

Jinova

Not awkward at all, kinda cool actually.  Lots of bands do that kind of stuff.

Now that being said, I saw Gene Simmons lick Ace Frehley's neck a couple of times. Thats FRICKIN AWKWARD!
