seeing the significance of this tour and MM, I am going with a solo.
future tours, definately another song

KevShmev

Another song, but fortunately, DT usually keeps this solo spots pretty short.  Sherinian's was pretty short on the FII tour, Rudess' was only four or five minutes on the M:2000 tour and Mangini's only appears to be four or five minutes right now, so that is good.  Dragging solo spots out too long can be really annoying, most of the time (Neil Peart notwithstanding).  I remember seeing VH several times in the 90s, and while the shows were always really enjoyable, having to endure nearly 10-minute drum, guitar AND bass :lol solos was a bit too much.

Jaffa

Another song, with an extended section for a brief drum solo.

DreamTension

I would prefer an evening with tour where everyone has their own solo...

But for this tour, I feel a drum solo is appropriate.

I'm really not into drum solos at all, but for some reason I'm really looking forward to this one.

Adami

Doesn't matter to me since I won't be going to any shows of theirs this tour.

However, if I were going I'd want a song. But only because I've seen multiple records of his current solo and it's unlikely to change in any substantial way.

A song for sure.  But the drum solo is pretty much only to give JLB a rest in the middle of the set.  And to show off Mangini of course.

TAC

For the first time around with MM, the solo is fine. Next time out though, I'll take another song.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

I'd rather have the solo.. Mangini is fun to listen to. Even though I have already seen the solo's on youtube they are always much more fun and interesting live. The experience is much different in person and his solo's are probably jaw dropping live.

Hell's Kitchen!!

:tempus:  I'd rather have a 25 minute triangle duet between Mangini and Triangle Guy before having to sit through that.

Is that because that duet would be awesome?

i would be very satisfied with the addition of Anna Lee to the setlist.

This. Always this. This since I became a fan around the time Octavarium was released.

id rather see a drum solo. 98% of the show is songs and the remainder is there for solos. plus mike is the new guy and he should have a chance to show what he's capable of to a live audience. lmao @ the guy who said he'd rather hear anna lee than mike mangini take a drum solo.

Thing is, drum solos as an art form aren't particularly interesting or enjoyable for everybody. Crazy, I know.  ::)

i understand that. i just found it amusing that someone would rather hear one of their more pop rock sounding (and one of their weaker, imo) songs over a world class drummer taking a solo for 4-5 minutes.

Haha, fair enough. S'pose it's worth mentioning that my opinion is the opinion of someone who loves songs like Anna Lee and I Walk Beside You whilst finding things like The Dance of Eternity and The Great Debate a huge snore, so what do I know? :P

blackngold29

On most tours? Another song. On MM's first tour? A solo. All the ones he's done so far have been incredible.

Madman Shepherd

I really don't care for drums solos but dude, DRUM SOLO!  Mangini is a monster and its about time he was unleashed on the world.
