The Silent Cody

I was very excited for two times this year - before new Arch Enemy album (dissapointed...) and Chimaira's The Age Of Hell (  :metal :metal ) and now I'm very very very excited before Adtoe release ;)

I've never been this excited, for an album, but the most highly anticipated I've been for an album previous to this was Maiden's the final Frontier, but the excitement was NOWHERE near as much as it is now for ADTOE :)

I've never been this pumped for an album ever! BC&SL doesn't come close. Its also because I'm seeing them live in SF.

I'm totally in agreement.  This is going to be a great couple of months for new releases between DT, Haken, Steven Wilson, Opeth and Magenta.

The Presence of Frenemies

Since DT is my favorite band, and I became a fan in 2006, the only albums that could possibly compete would be SC and BCSL, since in my pre-DT days I wasn't as immersed in music anywhere near as much. Definitely anticipating this one more than I did BCSL, and probably more than SC as well, partially because being on DTF, hearing snippets, and what not keeps it more forward in my mind. Add in that LaBrie's been sounding good and the great new drumming stuff, and it's the most anticipation I've ever had for an album.

If you count only excitement, I can at this point, after hearing one full song and several snippets and reading some reviews, say that I have never been so excited about an album as this time. Mostly this is because the snippets have been totally excellent and I also really like OTBOA. So really looking forward to hearing the full album!

If you consider anticipation, then I have to admit that I have anticipated some albums maybe even more than this. But in those cases, excitement was mixed with fear as I had not heard any samples etc. This category includes SDOIT, Ayreon's The Human Equation and the newest Epica album. I was totally shocked during the heavy intro of The Glass Prison and with MP vocals, as I had been anticipated for something ultra-prog, like SFAM part II. I also remember waiting impatiently for Symphony X's The Odyssey and being quite upset with it at first.

The Odyssey is incredible! I suppose it wasn't as diverse as V or DWOT.

Just listened to the snippets again and watched JP and JLB's track by track interview.... and the answer to the OP is NEVER!
Seriously, I've never been this excited for any album before...

Even my least favourite snippet, "This is the Life" is growing on me now....
I'm afraid of losing it before the September 13 comes....  ::)

Yes, nowadays I quite like it. But TDWOT will forever remain my favourite SX album, as I am more of a prog than metal listener. The Odyssey was only a good example of what false expectations and too much anticipation can lead to. So in this way, DT has done quite a good job of releasing the snippets. Now everybody has quite a clear idea of what the record will be.

In SDOIT case, MP said before the release that the album's style will be a mix of Awake and LTE. That is why I was quite disappointed of the Disc 1 of SDOIT when I first heard it. Only after forgetting those expectations I was able to enjoy the record completely. Of course these HC fans are a tiny minority of the fanbase. So it might commercially make more sense to hype the new album as much as possibly. HC fans are loyal and will stay as fans, even though they might be a bit disappointed first. But getting new people interested in the album is harder.

Ah I see! Im with you. I prefer prog bands to be prog more so than metal. If I want to hear big crunchy riffs, I listen to Megadeth and Shadows Fall. That seems to be SX's M/O these days and less emphasis on prog and melody.   :'(  But I am incredibly excited for this DT album because the snippets are just what I was hoping for!
