Reviewer: Dave Roberts, The AU Review

Score: 10 / 10

Select quotes:

the metal-as-anything guitar riff and an intro that would leave the boys from Disturbed running home with their tales between their legs.

My first thought? "Who is that?!" Welcome back Images and WordsJames LaBrie. His voice sent shivers up my spine, focussed and mid-range, and then swelling to his signature falsetto.
It's upbeat and sounds a little bit like the power-rangers theme. Not the crappy version – the rockin' version from the SNES video game. But that gives way to a more melancholic verse section, before building to a chorus of proportions so huge and awe-inspiring that Chuck Norris himself would shrivel. OK, maybe not Chuck Norris, but superman, definitely.

This album is a masterpiece.

Overall? If you haven't pre-ordered this album, do it. If you don't like Dream Theater, get this album and it will change your opinion on them forever.

I think it has been posted before, although I thought it deserved its own thread.

Btw, in b4 bosk rages about the thread title not being in the proper format!  :P

I looked for the DTF Manual of Style and couldn't find the proper format.

Please, I've got a wife and... well, no I don't actually.

Haha! In all seriousness, I don't know if I want to get all hyped up on the 10/10 rating that this guy gave the album. I would probably go into the first listen expecting the best fucking album ever written.  :lol

There's fuck all falsetto on I&W. LaBrie canes chestvoice HARD. If he's singing high passages again then great but it better not sound shit.

Not taking a 10/10 review seriously. If it was that good, we'd know about it already.

The Silent Cody

He said that OTBOA is the weakest song on the album  :metal

haha, wow...if OTBOA is the weakest song, then this is a 10/10 fo shizzle.  I hate things getting hyped up too much, especially when I am already doing it myself in my own mind.  I don't regret splurging for the Meet & Greet tickets one bit after reading this review.

Apparently BMUBMD features an electric drum intro...that should be interesting.

blackngold29

I thought he meant the drum solo was "electric," not 'programmed.' Then again, with JP having programmed all the drum stuff in advance that would actually be cool.

No, it's actual electronic drums, sort of like the break in ITNOG.

LieLowTheWantedMan

Well I guess whoever made that thread hoping for more stuff like that (forget who) got his wish. :P I think it's interesting and cool they decided to give it a go.

Is it only for a few seconds like ItNoG though, or something they actually experiment with?

It's more than ITNOG. About 20 seconds of the intro, then 15 seconds of the bridge. I'll let you decide how you factor that.

I'll let the song itself decide how I factor it, but thanks for the info. :tup

Obfuscation

I should stop reading these reviews. My expectations for this album are just getting too high.

So, MM playing electronic drums or JR playing electronic "drums"?

I would imagine MM.  There are electronic drum pads in his new kit.

I assume the reviewer misquoted the lyrics of Lost Not Forgotten when he quotes "I am not a mortal.  I am just a man."  Guessing the word is actually "immortal"
