If nothing else, he sounded, by the tone of his voice, reflective (about his time with the band) and hopeful (about some day playing with them again), as opposed to angry and spiteful, so hopefully he is mellowing out about this a little.

However, he is still saying things like, "Dream Theater was MY baby," and "I took care of that baby for 25 years," which just makes him sound conceited and arrogant, like he did it all.  If he read this thread, he'd probably play the victim again and pull out the "No matter what I say, I get criticized for it" card again.  I think he still doesn't understand that comments like that belittle the importance and contributions of his former band members.  Whether he means is that way or not, that is how it comes off.

I don't think he's angry with them anymore, however I get the feeling, from the way he formulates himself, he's convinced they will fail without him and eventually come begging him to return.

Which is weird to me.  Maybe the situation is being misread by this corner of the internet, but it seems like ADTOE is about to sell extremely well and have a successful world tour.  Unless DT12 is completely screwed up, what would happen in DT's career that makes them think MP needs to come back?

Maybe he hasn't heard the snippets yet. And only a few select people have heard the album.

Portnoy was killing DT all by himself. Was killing it for me as a fan. I'm soooo excited about the new DT, something not since SFAM. I just wish MP would go away, far away!

He heard OTBOA and  a couple snippets. He said so himself.

Well I knew he heard OTBOA already. I guess that confirms it then :P

I don't think MP's really begun to accept the fact that he'll probably never be a member of DT again.  On one of the early Adrenaline Mob interviews, Eddie Trunk was talking about how according to him and other people he'd talked to, it was inconceivable that MP would never rejoin Dream Theater.  If that's what one of MP's closest friends thinks, well, then...
He didn't say anything about being a member. He was asked (by an interviewer, he didn't just bring it up) about doing something with them again, and he said he'd be completely open to it.

It seems vaguely implied though.  Right after he left he did the Trunk interview where he talked about the possibility of joining the band again with some degree of enthusiasm.  I see no reason to believe he ever stopped thinking that way.
Because that was before the shit hit the fan? He can say some stupid things but he's not a stupid person. I'm sure he thinks it might still be a possibility, but not that it's likely at all. In regard to that question, I interpreted the wording of both the question and his answer to be more about something like a reunion show or something like that. But who knows.

I totally agree - that's what stood out to me as well.  I wonder how much of this was a simple personality conflict between him and JLB and JM...  Maybe it wasn't so much about the band itself, but the personality conflict kind of grew to affect and hurt the  band.  Agreed, maybe we'll see another LTE down the road...

If thats true, then I don't think JR or JP appreciated the personality conflict Mike had with them.  Just look, not only at how they interact now, but even before.  In the book Lifting Shadows when they talk about how they were considering replacing LaBrie around 2003, Mike had A LOT of words about it.  JP had very little to say except that he thought JLB just wasn't into it, and was really excited when their talk turned around his attitude.  JR basically said he stayed out of it and JLB said that it was a wakeup call and he wanted to prove to them how much he cared about the band.  Even the manager chimed in and said, "Guys, if you do confront LaBrie with this, you gotta play it careful cause this is dangerous territory and you don't know how difficult it might be to build this band up with a new vocalist".  Mike was the only one that seemed less than enthusiastic.  It really seems like he wanted to can LaBrie and everyone said, "Well if it's his performance your concerned with, then we need to talk with him and tell him we need to step up, not that we want to can him."

Even though there is nothing to indicate that the other guys were annoyed by Mike regarding that situation, I think it was clear that his view was drastically different than theirs.

The "I" stuff really needs to stop, but I blame the interviewer more than MP for this one.

DT was very dull for a few years there. Saddened me. The music was too often predictable, soulless and tasteless to these ears. These were the years when MP seemed to be dominating proceedings. Now he's gone, DT sounds like it may be back to the glory days, his new band sounds dull. I'm happy.

yeah he's definitely heard OTBOA and at least the first snippet of "Bridges in the Sky". Quite wisely it has to be said, he didn't comment on what he thought of them because what he knew what he expressed would be "dissected" to pieces - which, well these days, is what would happen.

Seeing as MP still maintains the same position about DT (as I can gather from the comments), I didn't really bother listening to the whole interview. It's just not interesting to me anymore.

I know right? Everyone else has moved on, it's like he doesn't ever go online to see people are tired of hearing this stuff.
It's the interviewer who's asking the questions that people aren't interested in anymore. Everything has been said, nothing fresh can be heard about the whole story.

The only thing that grates my nerves is his whole, "I took them out with Dream Theater" He's so up his own ass it's scary. I've been angry about that whole Symphony X thing since he started saying it earlier this year. His ego kills it for me.

What did he say about Symphony X?

Oh and I just looked and found out that Adrenaline Mobs singer is Russel Allen. That's cool, but the music wasn't so great.

That HE brought them out to tour with DT, not Dream Theater asking them to tour with them.

On Mike Portnoy's Facebook page, he posted this interview and I replied with something roughly along the lines of...

"Honestly, Mike, "'I' built the band"? I'm beginning to lose more and more respect for you each day"

Have your own opinions on whether my comment was needed but because of this, my comment was deleted and I was removed from the page. Doesn't that seem a bit excessive?

HE deletes ANY  comments that don't make him out to be great. I've seen it happen over and over again. He will also ban you from posting on his page.

Adami

I doubt Portnoy does that personally. But if someone came to my facebook or any of my musical projects facebook and started trashing it, I'd get rid of them too.

To be honest, that comment was a bit negative and confrontational in tone, I don't blame him for deleting it.  It might have gone over better had you said something like "The other four members helped you build the band too, let's not forget their contributions!"  Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if he'd delete that too given the way he's been acting lately.

He's a grown man, he shouldn't need opinions pampered and puffed up.

I agree, but he should feel to delete rude comments.

Constructive criticism is one thing, but you were being rather rude about it.

No, I just live in a grey area, I don't need extreme to classify something. It doesn't have to be the most rude comment ever to be considered rude, you don't have to call him names or insult his mother or anything, but saying you're losing more and more respect for him each day is slightly on the rude side and isn't constructive in the least.

Yeah but not that kind.

EDIT: I also want to point out that mine was bigger than the one in the photo, but I couldn't find a picture with a fish big enough to represent it.

Mosh

So was mine, in fact, it would take at least 4 Petruccis to make up the fish I caught.
