I argue that it wasn't promotion. Why? Because the video was directed towards Dream Theater fans. The vast majority of DT fans on the internet already know about Samplewiz, and it is unlikely that a non-DT fan would be watching the video/interested in buying a $100 boxset of their new album.

if you compare it with the MP promotion of BC&SL, the guys just do not take themselves too serious.

Surely everyone can actually see the video is meant to be a wee joke. Rudess' promotional tactic for his new app i'm sure isn't based on making silly noises during off-the-cuff Dream Theater videos. You are allowed to know it's meant to be humourous yet not be amused by it. Like episodes of Family Guy for example...
