Songs very unlikely to be played live again.....

This isn't a MP flaming post, just my thoughts on the songs they probably won't play live again, because of MP's vocal parts, or how personal they were.  Here's what I think..

-Any song from the AA Suite.  For both reasons.  There were a lot of tading off in the vocals that would simply be too difficult for JP to play and sing on his own (verses in TGP for example)

-A Nightmare to Remember-unless they have JLB or JP do the rapping part

-Prophets of War-same reasons here

-The Dark Eternal Night-unless JLB just does the verses on his own

-The Best of Times-Not sure if they ever even played this one anyways

Any thoughts?

The Silent Cody

I think that They will back to A Nightmare To Remember. And I also agree with The Best Of Times.

ResultsMayVary

I think they will probably play all those eventually with the exception of The Best of Times.

Mosh

I was thinking about Nightmare. They'll probably just leave his part out.

Thats a good thing IMO.  A great song ruined by wanna be tough guy vocals.

Marion Crane

I don't think it's a coincidence that every song on this tour, MP didn't write any of the lyrics to. I know JP played it off like he didn't realize that but c'mon.... Plus, Mangini already knew ANTR perfectly and they didn't play it. One less song to learn no?

TL

They probably left ANTR out this past go around because they played it a lot on the previous tour. If they play it in the future, they could just leave out the MP vocal section. It would be an improvement.

I'm really curious about who did the "Day after day" vocal section at the drummer auditions.

Yup. The audition was probably without it.

Vajra

I hope you're wrong about the AA songs. I need to hear The Glass Prison played live before I die.  :-\

lelanddt

I Agree about any of the AA suite songs, since repentance was very rarely played i doubt it will get any playing time. root of all evil and dying soul very possibly. glass prison will probably be played again.
watch, i bet there will a dt concert in the future and they say "you know what? who really cares" and play space dye vest and best of times back to back over and over for 3 hours

I'm pretty sure no-one did. I think Peter Wildoer said he rehearsed it on his own, but they didn't have a mic for him to do that bit at the actual audition.

John Myung directly into the ears of James labrie with red eyes and visibly bad breath.

I truly hope they never play The Dark Eternal Night ever again, and for that they can choose any reason they want.

I have a feeling that on this next leg of the tour, they'll play the same setlist, with 1 or 2 new songs added.

I hope they do. A top DT song. Fuck the metal hating hippies.

And I agree we won't be hearing the AA suite any time soon. That's something pretty personal to MP lyrically, so I can't see DT doing that without some serious thought. Plus it has a fair chunk of MP vocals, and they've got no fill in for those yet unfortunately, so it's going to sound empty. JP just can't fill that void.

Oh I love metal, but it's a terrible song. Maybe it's fun live....I dunno, but it's in my top 5 worst DT songs ever.

It is one of DT's most underrated songs easily. Perfectly constructed instrumental section, a lot of new unexplored ideas for DT rather than something boring and safe, JM is cranked in the mix, and it has so much detail that people ignore.
And I'll tell you first hand that no other song got as big a positive fan reaction as TDEN live. Nothing else came close. They'd be silly to never play it again.

Adami

Eh, some guy I think from New Zealand or something made a video called The Dark Nintendo Night. You should check it out, you might like it.

You guys realize that Mike Mangini sings right? When he toured with Nuno Bettencourt he did a lot of backround vocals. He isn't MP but he could pull a lot of it off.

Zook

No, the guy is from Austria and his name is Arnold Brownshwagger.

He does? I don't know Mangini's stuff too well, I just know that when I asked JR about whether Mangini could sing, he said Mangini said he couldn't / wouldn't. Maybe he just wants to focus on playing his parts? After all, we know JR can sing too (at least for backups) and he never has.

It is a pretty cool song to hear live, just because they play it with a lot of energy. and it also has dt's most tasty riff at the end!  it's a better live song than forsaken imo, and they liked to play forsaken live.

I say keep ANTR in a later tour (AMAZING live...) Have LaBrie do the DAY AFTER DAY part... (like in the demos mike put up on his forum a while back)

That would be a good idea since that's how JP wrote it originally before Mike told him to change it.

That would be a nice live nugget. Or just leave that part empty for the crowd to do. It would be a good crowd participation section.

tri.ad

The only songs of which I'm certain that they won't get played is TBOT and most of the AA songs.

Metrovarium

I could see TROAE being played live, and maybe TGP, but otherwise I doubt we'll hear the AA suite much anymore. However, I can't see them getting rid of ANTR or TDEN, really.

SnakeEyes

I hope they never play a song from that AA thing ever again.  That was SO annoying.  In my opinion, only about 45% of it was actually GOOD, anyway.  Moving on.  Thanks.
