this is a preview song by song from the site musicradar https://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/dream-theaters-a-dramatic-turn-of-events-full-album-preview-488940

"How amazing is Dream Theater's upcoming album, A Dramatic Turn Of Events? Well, we're over the moon about its many splendors. Yes, it's that great! In an exclusive interview, guitarist John Petrucci talks us through this stunning record track-by-track. "

I think the anticipation for the album will be higher thant ever   :)

Loads of cool stuff here! One thing I just flagged up in a less relevant thread two seconds ago (I'd delete that post if I could, in fact...) -

John Petrucci says of BtS, "actually, I wrote the lyrics without the music." That's... a first, surely?

wilgod3p

he seems to have done all the music

wilgod3p

so now we know Far from heaven is like the Part 1 of breaking all illusions

darkshot

I like that Breaking All Illusions has a La Villa Strangiato feel to it... sounds real interesting.  I'm guessing from the clip we've heard so far, it changes styles several times over the course of the song, like he said it goes from bluesy to jazzy to building up to a nice finale.

Great interview with JP. Nice to get more information everyday!

There are probably only two or three statements that are similar to the video. The rest of the interview is pretty much brand new information never before mentioned or discussed in public, at least.

Metropolis Pt. II

JP talking about a section in Lost Not Forgotten:
"We played it for some of the people from Roadrunner who came by as we were recording, and they went crazy. One of them remarked that the diminished section was like being tickled – that feeling you get where you're saying, 'Stop, stop!' but somebody keeps tickling you anyway. So we started referring to that part as 'The Tickle Section.'

I got a kick out of that  :lol

JayOctavarium

You know you are a dream theater fan when they call a section of a song "the tickle section" and you get excited

Quote"I was playing a riff while we were doing drummer auditions, and it really inspired me. So I programmed the drums and played the riff over it, but I ended up changing it around quite a bit, making it larger and more anthemic.

Maybe he has actually used a riff that he had played during the auditions, but changing it a bit, instead of what he had said about not using auditions riff at all for the album...

Or maybe since he changed a riff that he used at the auditions, that means that he didn't use any riffs from the audition since he changed the riff from its original version...

Maybe a first for JP, I don't know, but didn't Trial of Tears of Lifting Shadows start off as Myung poems?

Also, cool interview.

wilgod3p

yea I find the interview really cool, it's rare that an artist goes so deep in the description of the album before it come out

metropofreak

They still havent said what BTS is actually about yet, have they?
