Probably the best setlist for any DT DVD out there. Appreciate this fantastic bootleg.

wasteland

Too bad James was going through one of the worst periods of his career.

DarkLord_Lalinc

James doesn't sound that bad to me. He sounds way worse in Chaos in Motion.

Lynxo

Agreed, I think it's one of his better nights.

The encore is just unbelievable! :metal

Agree (this is why I watched CiM only once), but James could sing way better in the spring north american leg of the same tour. His condition dropped in the summer and did not significantly improve during the last two legs, leading the band to the famous "ultimatum" to James.

MetropolisxPt1

JLB's performance on LTL might be the worst he has ever sung. love the DVD but the vocals bring it down a bit for me. However JLB was pretty conscious to how his voice was that night he didnt try things he knew he couldn't pull off.

Tomislav95

Setlist is great but I agree JLB's performance is not the best. However he's better than on Budokan, Chile or CiM DVD.

Metabog

Heh. I could have caught it since I live in Romania, but I wasn't a fan back then unfortunately.

I've heard James on the videos online from the Chaos In Motion tour, and I also saw James live during the same tour... all I have to say is, the recordings DO NOT do his voice justice. He sounded absolutely amazing live when I saw him, I was literally blown away by how great he sounded. The recorded videos on the other hand, I can barely listen to him, he sounds atrocious in them for some reason.

Why the hell is this?

What do you mean? Was the band threatening to kick him out if he didn't improve?

I totally get what you mean. Somehow, it's not like LaBrie's voice and recording devices get along well. What I've noticed, is that several recordings posted on youtube during various concerts are a bit low on the low frequencies, causing LaBrie's voice to sound somewhat thin at times.

First official bootleg I got... And I love it (shame my DVD player destroyed it, I'm still not sure how).

The only problem with it I have is Petrucci plays guitar over the best bit of bass in Lines In The Sand.

Jesus, that's harsh. Are there any articles/videos that support this? I've never heard of this till now. I'd love to hear the situation from one of the band member's words.

I believe they told him he needed to take better care of his voice or he would be gone.

Man, that book really has a lot of good stuff in it that I would have never known. Didn't the author of the book browse this forum at one point? Or maybe it was the MP forum...

Metropolis Pt. II

I've been wondering if I should get the Bucharest DVD for the longest time, but I haven't gotten it since JLB apparently sounds somewhat poor. I also heard that the footage isn't the greatest quality and the camera isn't on Petrucci during a few of his solos. (I heard in general that the cinematography is not that great.) However, like several have said, the setlist is awesome.

So for those of you who have the DVD, how would you compare it with the others in a list? Would it be below/above L@B, CiM, LSFNY? etc.

I would get it, it's quite above CiM (almost everything is, actually). Bucharest's setlist is better than LAB, but nowhere as good as LSFNY. Plus, there's a lot of awesome bonus content in the second DVD!

I do love that bootleg, but I have to admit, there are points of Bucharest where there is a certain amount of "There are keyboards going on... There are really good keyboards going on... JUST SHOW THE DAMN KEYBOARDS... Oh, you missed the awesome bit." Or at least I seem to remember it doing that.

Defiantly that, it's because it was shot by Romanian TV station so they didn't really know what to show and when.
But I do appreciate this DVD for having the only other pro-shot of Fatal Tragedy than LSFNY and the only other pro-shot of Glass Prison than the Megadeth DVD.

Ben_Jamin

JR's keyboard solo is amazing. Shame he doesnt do them like this anymore. JLB is lol worthy on Take The Time, my god that was sad and awful.

SystematicThought

Is the Bucharest DVD the one where JLB falls down during The Killing Hand?

correct

El Barto

It's the DVD I watch most often, by far.  JLB sounds about like normal, AFAICT.  I can't stand TtT, so I never watch it anyway.  LtL is problematic, but he knows what he can do and doesn't train-wreck all over it.  The biggest issue is what Metty said.  The Romanian director was just showing what looked interesting, rather than zooming in on every solo or break.  Really, that doesn't bother me too much either.  We've kind of gotten a bit spoiled with the slicker production, IMO.  Plus, that actually means significantly more screen time for JMX.   Beyond those things,  awesome setlist.  Good crowd.  Good show.  Excellent bonus content.  I like it quite a bit better than any of the others.

Where can one access this bootleg? Was it one of those legal "for fans" thingos?

QFT. Love this set from top to bottom. Plus Lines In The Sand 2002 is  :hefdaddy
This is one tour they made the mistake of not recording. Instead they wasted their time on the SC tour.  :lol
