In terms sound quality, it is noticeably better than the Road Runner version.

devieira73

That version is really good. I think this is a real 320 kbps quality.
Thanks a lot!

WildeSilas

I'm sorry MP, but the cymbal work that starts at 2:10 is just the most sick fucking drum part ever in a DT song. I slap myself in the head every time I hear it.

Millais

thanks :) hadn't seen. can't wait to get the album :D need to pre-order in a second.

no

Drums are much more upfront on this one, it's much better.

It was awesome to see live last night.

I do not hear a difference. It still sounds like there is a blanket over the speakers.

EDIT: I am listening to Rush's Caravan in 240p and the rush mix sounds much better.

I assume that's the super fast ride work?

If so, it's faster than anything MP could do, but it's still pretty simple and straightforward. It would be like JP picking one note faster than anyone else could.

its the accenting on the highat its not really all that fast or complicated I wish for a little more variation then he played on Otboa

Adami

Oh, you mean where he's playing the guitar parts with his feet and the keyboard parts with his hands?

That part is actually pretty damn cool. It doesn't have to be impossible for it to be complicated. Just because other people have the ability to play it as well, doesn't take away from it as I'm sure tons of drummers couldn't pull that off without tons of practice.

The specs are the same in both videos - at least that's what Mediainfo reports. The audio is 151kbps AAC so it's far from 320kbps...

tri.ad

There are indeed some subtleties in the DT video that go unnoticed in the video from the RR channel. I don't hear much of a difference, but the sound is a bit clearer.

huh, I never fully appreciated that part until now...it is really badass

Who's gonna be the good fella that uploads this somewhere as mp3? Not against the rules I reckon since it's already free on youtube from which it's downloadable.

Pettor

It sounds better actually. I don't have much of a problem with the mix.

Guitalguy

THANK YOU. The mix is just so much better, the drums are more up there with the others, and I just couldn't be much more satisfied by the sound of it all. I converted the RR-version to mp3, and I'm gonna do that with this one as well. Don't see anything wring with that since it's already out there for free, and everyone has access to it.

I just download the youtube video with realplayer and then convert it to mp3 with a program called Any Video Converter.

People have been complaining that the drums aren't loud enough in the mix.  I have to disagree.  Go back and listen to the drum levels of Awake.  They are pretty tucked back in the mix and that album is a great mix.  I think everyone is just used to hearing the drums as a lead instrument because they have been cranked way the hell up on the past few albums.  The fact that the drums are tucked back lets the mix breathe waaaaaaaay more than it did on past albums.

ReaPsTA

I'm still waiting for the album version.  This one is still obviously more compressed by Youtube and has so much more bass than it should.

Adami

Based on all of the live clips and the studio recordings, I'm still under the theory that MMs kick drums sound awful.

I agree.  The first time I heard Six Degrees, I was taking a break from working on tunes, and without thinking, I reached up to turn the drums down just a bit.  Not a lot, but they've been just a bit higher in the mix than I'm used to, ever since then.  I just don't like hearing those pounding double bass drum rolls drowning everything else out on every song.

Dunno, I like his kick drum better than MP's, which was always way too close to those flapping kick drums extreme metal uses.

I like kick drums in metal to be more punchy and clicky than boomy. His sounds boomy on all of the wrong frequencies.

A good sound for Mangini would have been the sound of the kick on Suspended Animation. On here, it sounds like it's all low end and not much more.

rumborak

You're a drummer, that's for sure :lol

I don't make that much distinction tbh, I just don't like when the kick drum is all flap and no low end at all. MM's kick sound is closer to what I like than MP's sound as of late (and sadly also what he used on Adrenaline Mob, which really disappointed me).

Daso

Sounds much better than the version posted by Roadrunner. Thanks!

DoctorAction

That sounds SOOOO much better. Thanks!

Enjoyed the song even more like that. Loads more space, ambience and presence. Fab. Like the snare sound now I can hear it as well. Not been that keen on MP's drum sound since 6DOIT.

Dunno why the label doesn't just give out a good quality mp3 rather then a crap quality video, mind.

wammabe

I noticed the sound improvement when the orchestral sounds came in. It doesn't sound like a huge mess anymore.

Fjubb

The metronome click at 3:26 is still there  >:(
Unless it's intentional I really hope they fix it until the release.

RaiseTheKnife

oh yeah, crisp as daylight, I hear that beep now.  lol, ooops.

weezul

i hear it now.. but i doubt it's a metronome click. It's not in time! It almost sounds like either a guitar amp noise or an elastic audio glitch  :/

Zook

It's still nothing compared to that BLOP in Symphony X's Domination.

Daso

Oh God I can hear it... You just ruined it for me, impossible to unhear now  :mehlin

Gee, thanks for bringing that to my attention.
