Hi everyone, i'm new here and the new Dream Theater album "A Dramatic Turn of Event" will arrive in less of 2 months, so to kill time i wanna ask you what was the first CD of Dream Theater that you bought?, it counts also the first album that you hear fully and get into, what do you feel and all that stuff..

I first bought, was in a garage sale Scenes from a Memory and Six Degress of Inner Turbulance, and i just bought it inmediatly, but the first cd that i hear completly was that Scenes form a Memory album that i bought, in that time i was a noob of Dream Theater, i just had hear "Systematic Chaos" and "Black Clouds & Silver Linning" but not complete just few songs, when i hear the first song, i didnt know all the great concept that is behind this awesome album, it was growing in each song, to Regression until Finally Free, i very get into to the lyrics, my favorite bands in that time was Iron Maiden and Metallica, poorly shit right now, Dance of Eternity blow my mind, Home just give me a eargasm, each song was tremendous and im here, that album made that Dream Theater become my favorite band, and just let say that the albums that left in my DT collection are "When Dream and Day Unite" and "Falling Into Infinity"

...now what was your first Dream Theater CD/Album?

I checked my order history and what a weird first batch.... Black Clouds, Systematic Chaos, Octavarium and Falling into Infinity. FII at just 4 euros, that's probably why I got it and the others because I used to prefer "new" DT (SC and 8VM are two of my three bottom DT albums now).

I bought Images And Words + Awake at the same time during late 2000. Didn't become a fan until 2007 though.

[Roughly] the order in which I bought them.

1. 'Scenes from a Memory'
2. 'Black Clouds & Silver Linings'
3. 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence'
4. 'Train of Thought'
5. 'Images and Words'
6. 'A Change of Seasons'
7. 'Live at Budokan'
8. 'Octavarium' (hah!)
9. 'Systematic Chaos'
10. 'Awake'
11. 'Falling Into Infinity'
12. 'When Dream and Day Unite'

I could be wrong about the ones in the middle, however, since all 12 of these were bought hastily within the past year-and-a-half (yes, I discovered Dream Theater quite recently, actually).

Images and Words
WDADU
Train of Thought
Octavarium
Awake
Scenes From A Memory
Falling into Infinity
SDOIT
Systematic Chaos
Black Clouds and Silver Linings

That's the order I bought them in. The first two I heard were Images and Words and Live At Budokan.

The first songs that I heard from DT were Status Seeker, The Ytse Jam and The killing hand somwhere in 1995. It was a very interesting experience, reminded me of Rush.
After that I bought WDADU and Images and Words at the same time, I didn´t know that the band changed vocalist.
When I heard Images and Words for the first time I was completely blown away, and that album is still my favorite album of all time.
Of course very soon I bought Awake and A change of seasons, and DT became my favorite band.

Lowdz

In order from WDADU. Still think it's an awesome album 22 years later.

PS Head

Octavarium followed by SDoIT.......by which time i was completely hooked and have never looked back since.

1. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence / Awake / Images and Words.
2. Scenes from a Memory / Train of Thought.
3. Falling Into Infinity.
4. When Dream and Day Unite.
5. Octavarium.
6. Systematic Chaos.
7. Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
8. A Dramatic Turn of Events. (ordered!)

SfaM and ToT were presents, Christmas 2004. Group 1 was an Amazon binge somewhere around... probably September '04? I dunno. I'd been listening to assorted tracks long before I bought any of the CDs, so I knew bits off each one. I deliberately got the one with Blind Faith on, the one with Lie on, and the one which was meant to be really good. (Incidentally, the first song I listened to when I spun Images and Words was Learning to Live. 'Cause I was still in track-mode, and had heard it was ace.)

This except WDADU came after Awake

Octavarium. although seen as a more commercial album in some aspects, that is a good thing for me as it allowed me to appreciate this type of music and other artists much more widely.
