Me, Derek, and my friend John in I think 2006 at a Yngwie Malmsteen show.

"Eh Tony, look at deez two pencil necks I found lurkin' around outside. You want me da wack 'em?"

My wife and I met JP, MP, JLB, JR... But we just said Hi to JM as he went straight into the venue.
We where walking around Leeds City Centre a few hours before the show at the o2 a few years back, I saw 2 tour buses outside a hotel and I joked 'I wonder if thats Dream Theater?' As we walked up to find the venue, the same buses arrived at the venue and parked up and they seemed to be on the bus for ages before they came out to greet the fans.
I seem to remember a guy next to me ask MP what he should call his hamster, MP replied "Richard Gere". Said hi to the guys and got some pics with them. I know MP likes the Beatles and being from Liverpool I wanted to say to MP that he should come visit the home of the Beatles and play our brand new Echo Arena and do the Beatles tour while he's there, but after I had my pic with Portnoy, my wife jumped in and wanted a pic with him and he kinda moved on after her pic and I didnt get the chance! Was a bit gutted I didnt get to say it as my missus has shown zero interest in DT before that moment, she jumped in and I missed my chance.

The only thing that I will point out is that MP is indeed rather short compared to the others in the band isn't he?
I have no idea where this is coming from. On all the pictures I've seen, they're all pretty much just as tall as him. They're kinda equal. I'm noticing that Mangini is a bit shorter, though.

Is there any info on how tall the DT guys are? That would be some interesting yet useless stuff to know.

I met JP yesterday afternoon with his son in Leeds. Such an awesome experience to meet my biggest idol in the world  :hefdaddy

Met JP and JM at a store signing in CT before a Prog Nation show in '09. Chatted with Petrucci for a minute or two. Really cool guy. I even heard a few words from Myung.

I've just read things from people's meet and greets. They're sometimes surprised at Mike's height. He doesn't strike me as being too tall. JP must be close to 6 feet

Did you ever meet anybody? How was it like?Do they ever arrange a meet&greet before their live shows?Has anyone ever been waiting outside their hotel to meet them?

2004 ToT tour, LA, backstage after the When Dream and Day Re-unite show. Spoke to Rudess, casual convo with Petrucci, a nice exchange with LaBrie, got my wife to yell at Myung so I could get an autograph (he was trying to escape the room). We passed Portnoy in a hallway, who said "How you doin!" and offered a handshake. Ran into Marlene and kids earlier backstage. All of the guys were nice to us. A great night. I was a bumbling idiot meeting DT. Thanks for the hook up, you know who you are!

2005 - Met JP at a clinic. What a cool laid back dude. Gave us tickets to a Gigantour show that night.

2009 - Met Portnoy at a meet and greet at a local music shop. His goal was to accommodate everyone who showed up (which was a lot).

Bragging complete. Carry on...

I did the whole waiting outside the bus thing twice. Back in 05 on the 8V tour I met MP and got his autograph on a poster (which is in a frame on my wall) and met JLB and JR and got autographs for my friend the second time, which was at the Images and Words show they did in Newcastle, actually, one of the techs gave me a setlist but I didn't get it signed  was too busy getting my friends CD booklet signed :lol

I think I'm a bit old to do that kinda thing now, me and my friend talked about doing it at the show I went to the other day, but I dunno, I'd feel awkward doing it now. I still love their music and they're all cool guys, but meeting them to be like OMGJOHN would be a bit awkward. I did it when I was a teenager and I have those cool memories

I can tell that JP's exact height is "just the right height to put your head over his shoulder during soundcheck to creep him the fuck out". Don't ask how I know this.....  :yeahright

I've met MP twice, I met him on the PN09 tour and on the Maiden Final Frontier Tour 2010.
I met JM, and JP on the same day as meeting MP for the 1st time. Unfortunately my camera died before I could get pics with both :(

When I met MP, on both occasions I felt just like another fan, he wouldnt even shake my hand, but when I met JM and JP they actually had a conversation with me, and shook my hand (JM's hand shake is the most powerful handshake I've EVER experienced)

They were all awesome experiences and I still look up to MP like no other, but JP and JM put more effort into making more of a connection with the fans

MP Edmonton, August 19th 2009
JP Edmonton August 19th 2009

Aquila Chrysaetos

Well, never expected it but I met Jordan last Wednesday in the afternoon before the concert in Vienna.
He was walking through the city centre with (I presume) his wife.
I walked up to him, gave him a hand and chatted very shortly.

In addition, the day before I saw Mangini walk throught the centre also, but I didn't approach him.

While I have yet to meet any DT members, I do have the occasional adult beverage with their monitor engineer when he is in town between tours. Viva the Stage Left Brotherhood!!

A few times throughout the years. I met JP at a clinic in 1997 (right before FII came out... he even played an instrumental version of BMS before HK became its own song), MP at another clinic in 1999 (where he then told me that I was going to really dig SFAM- which wasn't out yet- because I remarked I was a big Dixie Dregs fan... and he was right too, I really did enjoy that record), MP again in 2000 and the whole band in 2002.

We did the Disney World trip as a family a few years ago and my son's saw John Petrucci with his family standing in line at TestTrack. They talked to him for a few minutes. Unfortunately neither of their cell phones had a camera.
