Did you ever meet anybody? How was it like?Do they ever arrange a meet&greet before their live shows?Has anyone ever been waiting outside their hotel to meet them?

Nick

By luck or passes I've been fortunate enough to meet MP 6 times, JR 3 times, Petrucci once, Myung once, and Sherinian once.

fleaman

Wow man thats great!I d really like to have the chance meeting them in Greece on August 2nd!Especially JM since i am a bassist too! However there is no contest for passes to meet them yet!

DramaticEvents

I met MP once, the day before their show in Quebec City in July of 2009. He signed a drum head and a poster for me. I had the chance to talk to him for a few seconds

Vajra

I had sex with a few of the members back in the early 90's. That's about it though.

Mike Portnoy a couple of times. Also his wife, Marlene, and his kids at the Grand Prairie Gigantour show. The one where they played "Cemetary Gates".

met them once at a meet and greet. 2009

Before their Prog Nation '09 show in Montreal, they did a signing at an HMV (a music store). I had bussed to the show from Ottawa with some friends and we had no idea about the signing until we accidentally stumbled upon it. We were lucky enough to be the last people the security let in the line before they cut it because DT had to get to the venue.

I bought a second copy of my favourite DT album, Awake (the only merch I had with me was my shirt) and got them to sign it. I also shook each member's hand except Mike Portnoy's (who met my outreached hand with a fist bump).

I was supposed to meet JLB last December for the tour, but that ended up getting cancelled.

In August 2009, I spotted JLB and JR walking around Minneapolis. I always felt bad for JR because in one of his MN videos, he goes past a guy who tells JR to 'shut that shit off'

That's really low. Fans doing that would make me think twice about whether being a famous musician is really worth it.

I was once drowning, then, I saw a John Petrucci sitting in a majestic chair, we were in a bright white room. He said "You're not ready yet". Then I woke up, turns out that a random passing bystander knew CPR.

Met Portnoy... That could have went better.

Oh come on...

Come on, what? I was nervous. It was a disaster.

Met MP once. What a nice guy. You can say anything about him but you can't say he isn't dedicated to his fans.

I just don't like when people taunt with stories like that. Obviously there's a story to be told here.

Who am I taunting? And you can't say I was fishing for comments because everyone knows nobody reads my posts.

If you do what I did and change the personal text bellow your picture people might start reading your posts.

Me and my GF went to stalk the hotel we figured they'd stay.

About 4 or 5 hours later they actually showed up tired as hell, signed a Lifting Shadows book, and some took pics with us.
Well, except LaBrie since he was very sick at the time, so much that the concert was almost cancelled.

I read Zook's posts.

And no, I haven't met any of them yet.  Met some people who look a bit like them, though.

Duly noted.

I met Derek Sherinian once. He was really nice and really cool. We talked for about 10 minutes.

No offense, but stalkers like you is why a guy like Neil Peart is so off-putting when fans approach him.

Perpetual Change

I have never met a musician I admire in person and honestly, I don't really care. I especially don't get the meet and greet thing. Paying an arm and a leg to meet someone just so you can dump praise on them seems pretty awkward to me. And honestly, I'm sure most of them would feel just as awkward getting all that praise as I'd feel giving it.

Agreed.

Oh, and to answer the question, when we went down to Orlando in 2000 to see the M:2000 show at the House of Blues, we inadvertently bumped into both Portnoy and Myung (separately) inside Disney World. :lol  Both were friendly and we got pics with both.  Myung even talked a little.  Really.

Been friends with JR for almost 10 years now. JR and Danielle have visited my place in 2009 for a cup of coffee. Very very nice people. Met the rest of the band through Jordan as well. James is also a very nice man as well.
