BlackInk

I am so getting this.

Also I'm hoping a Dream Theater ticket for life means you're in the band, for life.

I can just see MP ordering like five hundred deluxe albums just to get the ticket.  :rollin

Oh yeah, does Roadrunner or Omegaorder ship to other countries?

I bought BC&SL from The Omega Order and I'm in Australia

FsF

Kind of disappointing compared to the BC&SL set, since we can watch the DVD on YouTube, and there are no stems :-[. Wish they had some ultra-deluxe DVD with all of the drummers full auditions, but that is maybe a bit of a crazed request. Still, i'll probably end up buying it anyway, it's Dream Theater after all!

Lowdz

Disappointed like others that there are no stems this time.
And I thought they may have included the whole of the 'Genie's audition. And everyone does a making of dvd these days so there should be one of those. We are never satisfied are we.

Nick

While it's nice they've dropped the price this time around, and apparently have forgone any "limited edition" marketing, I must say I'm still a little disappointed in this. A digital download to ensure those who actually buy an album should be pretty much standard these days, so I really don't give any value to that, and especially if FLAC is not an option, which is yet to be seen.

The drummer audition would be awesome if they upped it to 2-3 hours which would then include 1-2 hours of yet unseen footage, but as is that holds very little value too.

So you have a CD/DVD set at $15, a vinyl at $25, instrumental CD at $10, and slipmat and litho each at $10.

So basically $70 in goods, $30 for packaging, and probably $10 for shipping as well. I would like to have it, but if I actually get it is yet to be seen.

YouMakeMeSick

Price just went up to $105.99, I was getting ready to order, but now I'll wait. The code "METALPERSPECTIVE" gives you an 8% discount.

ReaperKK

I'm going to pass on this, the only thing worth it IMO is the ticket for life. Even if you do get it I doubt it'll be honored past this tour and if it is, it'll have a bunch of limitations to it.

darkshot

So there's no way to just buy the 2 CD set with the album and instrumentals?  I was kinda just wanting to preorder that...  I have no need for vinyls or any of that stuff.

chrisbDTM

Maybe I'll go 2 for 2 with special tickets in DT boxsets  ;D

Thanks for that. I pre-ordered mine! Phew, the price was high, but it'll be worth it.

Now... Time to start saving up for a vinyl player.

Elaitch

I kind of hoped that the "super-mega-ultra-deluxe" version thingies would be a goner now. I always thought it was a MP thing... but apparently not. It's pretty silly, imo.

Well, don't buy it then.
I love them. I can never resist one.

This.

I would like the instrumentals because it's an interesting listen once you know the album as it is with vocals.

\o\ lol /o/

Is there a way to pre-order the CD without them? What I'm saying is, I think this is like the "Early Pre-Order" of the Deluxe Edition. There will probably be a 3-Disc set like with Black Clouds, that's just not available for pre-order at this particular moment.
Don't quote me on that, though.

I hope you're right. Otherwise, I'll just buy the Standard Edition. There's no way I could spend 100$ just to get the instrumental CD, I cannot play vinils at home and I am not THAT interested in everything else available in the Deluxe Edition only.

You're probably right... they put the most expensive deluxe version out first so the uber fans jump all over that.  If every version was available for preorder at the same time, I feel that more people would buy the less-than-deluxe version if given the choice.

Gorille85

This whole boxset is not really original.

GasparXR

If Bridges in the Sky is listed on the Roadrunner store, that pretty much confirms the name change. Unless something totally screwed up is going on.

Anyhow, I'll probably just be getting the standard one or the special edition with the DVD.

darkshot

To me it sounds like the Documentary DVD is exactly what they already have on Youtube... so I see no reason to get that for myself.  Then again I'm not a die hard collector like some people.  If they added extended videos of the auditions with select full songs then I might consider buying it.  But for now... I can always fire up Youtube and watch the exact same videos.

TheKillingHand

..Yeah I don't get why the audition documentary is the only special edition feature. I'd say every DT fan has already seen it and can watch it again on YouTube. I suppose it'd be nice to have it on DVD as a collector's item.

Ben_Jamin

Why are people not preordering when theirs Tickets For Life being offered?

Nick

Let's say 50,000 of these things are made, which is less than the Black Clouds box set.

With 50 tickets that means you have a 1/1000 chance at actually getting a ticket.

Let's say the ticket enables you to 10 free DT shows, at $100 a ticket which is being quite generous to the band. That's a $1000 value. Given a 1/1000 chance that means the chance at those tickets gives each individual box a grand total of $1 in added value.

Of course impulsive thinking such as you were doing is the reason casinos make big money, and it's the reason those tickets will move a lot of box sets.

:hefdaddy  Your logic is impeccable... I'm glad I wasn't planning on getting that...  I'm not sure what I'd do with 10 free DT shows anyways, since they've only played in my state like 2 or 3 times ever.  And I'm not the type to go following the band around on tour no matter how much I enjoy them, lol.

JPX

I think they got it right with Systematic Chaos. Just the record and a making of dvd. Perfectly adequate for me.
Train of Thought was essentially the same thing just with that stupid webkey to redeem the videos.

blackngold29

So it's basically $90 for:

Instrumental Version
Same thing you have on a CD on vinyl
Dream Theater Branded Custom Turntable Slipmat
Litho Print of Album Cover
50 Lucky Winners Will Find a Dream Theater 'Ticket For Life' (Randomly Inserted)
All Content Housed in a Custom Box
Receive a Digital Download of the Album the Day BEFORE Release

Eh, some would be cool, but not $90 cool with a ton of other great music coming out in the same month. The litho print is really the only thing worth having, based on my BCSL deluxe edition experience (which you can still get for $75).

Guitalguy

I think I promised myself to wait for the day it comes out, and run to the store and buy the regular one. Mainly because if I order something like this, it'll take 3 weeks in the mail to Norway, and I'll have to buy the regular while waiting. BUT, they solved it by making it available for digital download the day before release! Then of course I'm getting this. Awesome boxes with bunches of geeky stuff is the best thing there is.

Nick

My ideal box set would come with the album, a 5.1 DVD, the auditions extended cut DVD, the vinyl, and a DL DVD of stems so you could have more stems for easier work.

There's always a "More Perfect" version of everything, though. I'm just happy with what there already is.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that. The drummer documentary is pretty similar though, and it looks like there'll be a version containing just the album and the DVD.

While I see what you're saying, that's like going into a presidential election and saying, you can vote for this guy you don't like, this guy you don't like, or just not vote (not buy the album). Sure there are more perfect candidates, but you should just support one of these bad options.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy DT has put the additional option out there, I just believe it falls short of what could make it an amazing package.

Well, yeah. But the most important part, at the end, is the album. The music itself. And as a result, there is no "Bad Candidate". Just the adequate one who won't raise taxes and keep the economy stable (the regular album.)

snapple

Putting down a down-payment on my fiancée's wedding band then pre-ordering this...without telling her!
