This. I don't care for Trivium, but I have a friend who loves them who is just getting into DT. He will be fucking stoked.

One supporting band (at least) is better than three. You can still expect 2 through 2-1/2 hour performances.

That's what DT did when I saw them in Columbus last year as a one-off between the Maiden shows.

Trivium's ok.  Wouldn't make a point to go see them, but since I'll be going anyway, will watch.  More to the point, does this mean an abbreviated set?  I didn't think we'd see an Evening With tour (ever again, honestly), but I figured there would be an opening band for 50+ minutes, then 120 minutes of DT (or so).  Does this mean we will only get 75 minutes or so?

Jamesman42

Trivium? Dangit.

Oh well, at least it's just one band.
\o\ lol /o/

We can expect DT to play AT LEAST two hours.

IronEarthTheater

You know what's cool about that interview, is if you keep listening he talks about the new song (in general terms) and seems to be a fan.  I also remember they made a big show of verbally supporting Maiden when Sharon Osbourne went crazy and had people throw eggs at them a few years ago.  So I've always kinda respected them - and this only serves to increase that respect.  Not really my cup of tea (although I actually have Crusade and it's solid, especially lyrically), but I can think of much worse choices.  Pretty cool.  Interesting choice on the DT front - I know the label probably has a lot to do with that but DT must have been down with it.  Interesting...

Aniland

Gross. I'll arrive to these shows late.

:DT then proceeds to play primarily TOT, BC, and SC songs specifically at your show:

Trivium are an amazing metal band with really good chops.  Their work is strong, varied, powerful and very melodic, with great different vocal stylings.  I would love to see this combo.  It's a shame Trivium will get slammed for this, some of you guys should really check out all their work before slagging them off.  It's a great opportunity for them, they obvioulsly are fans of DT which is great, and most of all, I'm looking forward to their new album next month, maybe even more than DT.

Wolf, you and I seem to see eye to eye on a lot of metal stuff. What's a good place to start with Trivium?

I hope this is not just in the US! Trivium are a great band, and they've mentioned in interviews that they are Dream Theater fans and that DT inspires a lot of their music, so this is a great combination. That said, I think it's possible they'll tone down some of their more metal influences for the tour, and maybe we'll see Heafy revert to his 'metal singing' voice like he did for a couple of tours a few years ago, instead of having as much screaming. Maybe they'll even play some of their more prog tracks like 'Crusade' (A man can dream)

And for those who don't like their music because of the screaming check out their album The Crusade which has pretty much no screaming on it (plus the title track is ridiculously good.)

lol.

But thanks. I think we see eye to eye on a lot of music things too.

emindead

Trivium appeared where in the Score DVD Documentary or in the Systematic Chaos promo?

lateralus88

God damn it Roadrunner.

EDIT: I can see it now. Hot Topic/scene kids lining up to see Trivium and getting into Dream Theater as some bullshit trendy thing for long songs.

DOUBLE EDIT: I guess I should mention that I do very much like Trivium's last two albums.

Ultimetalhead

Wow. Fuck that. I might just get front row seats to throw shit at them.

Regardless, I don't think I'll be busting my ass to make it to this one on time.

It's what Hot Topic does to music. Makes it into some bullshit trend. Take a look at their clothing line. Every single band shirt has the exact same style for the most part, all for different bands with different styles (mostly). That's just one example, really.

Ummm... the only thing I could foresee the trendies getting into from DT would be Forsaken.  Just sayin'.

Ultimetalhead

I swear to god, if any Trivium fans get into Dream Theater, I will skewer the entire staff of Roadrunner. Thankfully, it seems the A7X camp hasn't migrated much, so maybe we'll get lucky again.

And don't even act like they won't play that song for that exact reason. God what a terrible decision.

MasterShakezula

Well, perhaps if the guitarist of Trivium happened to, um, try to tell JP how to play his guitar, then maybe this worry won't last too long.

They'll find something to market. Just you wait. Scene kids will hear about this music that's all progressive and junk, and then suddenly writing longer songs with a ton of shitty synth, breakdowns and -core vocals will become the "new thing". And they'll all claim DT as an influence.

I've been in Hot Topic several times, and while the place is an embarrassment, they carried shirts of some bands I like. I stopped going there though because their selection kept depleting and eventual only had the "trendy shirts" i.e. Maiden's Trooper Shirt and their European tour shirts that you know nobody in the states has been to. I refuse to wear tour shirts of a tour I haven't been to see.

But anyway, what I was questioning was your long song trend thing you said. How can HT do anything with that?
