Obviously a lot of tension between him and Portnoy, and James is not afraid to let it out.  Great interview.

the blabbermouth comments about this story are making my head hurt

Great stuff. Good work and thanks, Kyo! (Remember you from the Beard board. Was davepain there. Hey!  :))

Hey, I remember the davepain user name from the Beard board way back when!  Although I might have been KEVIN2112 back then.  Can't remember if or when I made the switch over to KevShmev there.  Anyway, long time no see! :)

Best interview I have read since SFaM. Great questions. Glad the DT Forum community was able to contribute.  :tup

Roadrunner are now running a story on their site featuring this! good work!

Reading this interview makes me want to skip to Breaking All Illusions when the record drops...

Good work! Great questions with great answers!

The actual Roadrunner, or Blabbermouth?

bosk1

Blabbermouth.  Not to take away from Kyo's excellent job, but it is unlikely Roadrunner would run a story on a fan interview.

EDIT:  I stand corrected.  Well, sort of, anyway.  There is a short feature on the Roadrunner USA site, but it links to the Interview through Blabbermouth, so...yeah.  Anyhow, again, great job, Kyo.

I had seen the Blabbermouth headline, which is why I asked, but...

Actual Roadrunner USA site.

I think you may be wrong in your answer. :lol

I think you may have posted before reading my edit.

Well you're not a mod/admin are you :O

I'm an Aniland

Not sure why, but reading this, in combination with your picture, made me laugh.

Super Dude

This interview is amazing.  You really get to know, from a brutally honest perspective, what the chemistry of the band was like before MP left.

And Eminem.

I know the Canadian rap must have come from an actual fan of rap music.

It's funny that Scarred is one of his favorites. When I saw them in LA a few years ago, Scarred was the one song James kept screwing up, one of the verses he kept coming in wrong (while portnoy kept shaking his head) eventually he gave up and quit singing until the chorus.
I remember watching that in the Bootleg.

First time I saw Scarred live was at this show.  Even with the gaffs, I'm soooo thankful that i got to see the song live, but yeah I remember shaking my head at James' forgetting the lyrics.

Mike Portnoy in regards to the interview on his facebook: There's a HUGE difference about trying to "grab the limelight" and being an entertaining "performer" on stage...
EDIT: Looks like he's hurting from this interview too as he's liking the status' about James being out of tune and him being the heart of DT....Oh well!
From someone on facebook:    Labrie's mouth is only exceeded by his ego and both eclipse his talent as a vocalist by a longshot. Has he seen some of that early live footage? Can you say pitchy? He's always been the weakest link in the band and correct me if I'm wrong, he wasn't there at the bands inception. So how is he all of a sudden the spokesperson? Oh yes, the dreaded lead-singer syndrome. Public perception makes him the leader? HA! Mike's role in Dream Theater is at the core. Labrie's role in the band is pure luck..yes, he was lucky to be on stage with such stellar talent. He wasn't ever in their league of talent and never will be, he's lucky to be along for the ride. He should keep his mouth shut and preferrably while the band is on stage also...
Mike Portnoy likes this.

Makes me rather sad that Mike thinks this.

Perpetual Change

where are you seeing that? I'm on his facebook page, and haven't seen anything like that.

Awesome interview. I would love a blu ray remake of score and budokan as well as a new blu ray.

Ugh. His choices of likes are getting harder to turn a blind eye to. First I thought he was just being a little clumsy, then passive-aggressive, and now it's starting to look just plain aggressive.

I like Mike Portnoy, but if he insists on making us choose sides, I'm not going to end up anywhere near his. It's not a battle he's going to win.

nikatapi

Why on earth would he like such posts? He only makes things worse...

Yeah, it's one thing when it was, "Well, we haven't really talked to Mike. It's gonna take some time to heal the wounds." Or whatever along those lines Pettrucci said. But Mike's just opening those wounds further. I mean, he's been in DT for far too long to be the spiteful little 'Mustaine.' Plus he's too old. That's such an immature, childish thing to do, but it really seems like he's gonna start a classic "Rap beef" with DT.

This is the kind of thing my 15-16 year old friends would do. Girls.

How old is he? 30, 40 odd? Basically, he seems to be acting like a teenage girl at the minute, I'm losing a lot of respect for him :(

43 this year, I believe.

Yeah, I gotta say, I think he's gonna lose a lot of followers. I mean, quite a few DT fans said, "Well, we're still fans of DT, but we understand where MP is coming from, so we'll still support what he's doing." And I think a lot of those people are gonna turn away after things like this.
