Well, as someone who's been playing this game for 30 years I'm here to tell you that there's never been a fair way. Probably the most fair method would be random distribution, and that would piss off 90% of the concert going public.

The way I see it, the seat that cost $189 (Gold VIP) should be better than the seat that cost $104 and went on sale two weeks later.  A premium price and pre-sale should be an advantage, not a bad deal.

That's really freakin stupid. They should at least be clear about which seats go where. I don't even care that the tickets get spread out to be sold in a bunch of different places, I just wish they'd say where to buy which seats, which day BEFORE they go on sale. That way it's fair game, and whoever wants to spend the money and effort to get them the second they go on sale, at least knows how to do so.

And to be clear I am TOTALLY happy with my seats! It's just annoying how confusing this is to work with. Thanks for answering btw!
Being the old mother f er that I am I remember sleeping on a cold sidewalk to get my tickets. You paid the price but you got great seats.
Obviously I am happy that isn't the case anymore cause I would not do that but I got great seats for every show.
I am happy with the seats I got for NYC. Logged on and got 3rd row lower balcony. Quick and painless.
It doesn't always go that well, but this time I was fortunate.

I don't want to sound sceptical at all, but do they really think they could attract 50k people with just 3 gigs?

Hell, you didn't always even get good seats. I camped out for the Somewhere in Time tour and got hosed. Day after Christmas, too. Cold as all getout.

As for the fairness aspect, I just don't think willingness to spend more money equates fair. Tiered ticket pricing was a bad development, IMO, and I'm not crazy about bronze/silver/gold packages, either. Fanclub memberships are a scam. Presales are a pointless. The only good thing here is that we're talking about a concert with rather limited appeal. At least the scalpers aren't in play.

Not necessarily, but if DT attracts like 35k-40k in the Mexico area, where else can they fit these people other than these venues?

You can also get better seats by accidentally getting crashed into by a penniless baked kid on a skateboard in the parking lot of the show, then complain that you missed the first two and a half acts that you didn't give a flying f about in the first place. That's how you can get unsold VIP seats next to the soundboard just behind the front-center section in the Oakdale.
Or go to a standing GA show, and stand at the edge of elevated area behind the pit. It's always fun to look down upon moshers in an un-air-conditioned venue.

Whoa, it wasn't until I checked this that I realized there is a NJ show.... a NJ show only 15 minutes from my house?  I already got my tickets for NYC, but I am definitely interested in seeing DT in Red Bank too.  I can't find ticket info though.

And not a single Texas date...  :\
A consequence of the evening with format. They only play down South as part of a package deal or with other bands opening. My guess is that later on in 2014 they'll start a second leg with a couple of bands that nobody cares about and then play Texas, Arizona, Florida, etc.

So it looks like I'll be hitting both the NY and NJ shows.  The NJ show is a definite.  My friend will most likely get on the guest list for the NY show through his company. If he can't swing that, and finances are in order, I'll still hit the NY show.

Grizz

I'm surprised that nobody hypothesized that there's a short and late announced American leg because orchestra...

Does anyone know where to get tickets for the Chicago show? I can't find it on ticketmaster or any other site.

Me either!  DT.net redirects to the Chicago Theatre website, but it's not listed there.  What's goin on DTF?

Edan the Man

^ Same thing happens with the DC show. Only the VIP tickets seem to be available at the moment.

Hellz yeah, gonna hit up Denver....and during when its legal.  Just a walk away from the Hyatt,  going to kick ass.

Just got great seats to the Milwaukee show trough dreamtheater.net. Way better than with the venue presale, or the band's website presale. Been refreshing like crazy different websites since wednesday until I got pretty much what I condsider "ideal seating" this morning. This  ticketing system works in a very confusing way.

I missed the announcement.

Now the only tickets left for the Seattle show are crappy seats.
