That's absolutely true.  But if the cover has no effect on the music, then the cover may as well be cool, right?

chrisbDTM

might as well, but it doesnt have to be. and its not even that bad

fadetoblackdude7

So much negativity........it is an awesome album cover!

GasparXR

I like the surrealism. I wonder what the metaphor is. It's more than likely a combination of lyrical elements from the songs, and as someone pointed out already, the plane is Beneath the Surface of the clouds.

in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter what the cover looks like?

cover =/= music

that doesn't stop it from being a lame cover dude

TL

If nothing else, I like the color scheme. It's a refreshing change of pace.

Heaven Outcry Angel

well its not their best but I like! :metal :metal

its not the worst ever...

Jamesman42

I'm not one to care for covers unless they're really cool (ToT and 8VM).
\o\ lol /o/

theREALmikey

...do we think maybe the plane is a 9-11 reference?

Mladen

It's good. Not one of their best album covers, but still nice work.

Thats kind of trite man.

GasparXR

I'm pretty sure that dealth with 9-11 with Sacrificed Sons already, why would it again? And like I said before, I think the plane is meant to represent Beneath the Surface.

fadetoblackdude7

I've just noticed something - Some people think that the guy on the unicycle is MP and the plane represents DT......but I think the title points to the rip in the rope, meaning the guy is about to fall to his death.

Maybe everyone's already noticed it and I'm just slow lol.

lodeus

The bottom seems too empty in my opinion.

FlyingBIZKIT

six degrees of inner TURBULENCE.

Planes and Turbulence

Get ready for another 42 minute epic.

No, not really.

ZBomber

Really lame cover. But as others have said, most of DT's covers aren't that great anyways, so whatever.

ElliottTamer

Interesting how divided opinion is on this one...
Btw, I seriously didn't expect that so many people disliked/didn't really like DT's covers. I for one would be hardly pressed to name bands I think have better covers (Opeth is the only one that comes to mind right now...).

my opinion: :(

Wow - the similarities here are astounding! I just wish the unicycle guy's clothes weren't so Ronald-esque.  The idea of the rope-across-forever is neat, and like it's been said, it's not so dark and gloomy. **Speculation on my part** so, I think another panel of this scene will appear in the rest of the art for the album. The "dramatic turn of events" will be that the rope breaks, and the guy will have fallen, only to catch himself/land on the airplane. There will be a panel where we see part of the airplane, and the guy holding on to a wing edge or something to that effect. (Yeah, I know the placement/timing of parts on this don't seem like it's possible, but the guy IS on a rope thru the sky....)

GasparXR

I think it would be really surrealistic if on each panel, the plane stays in the same spot, but the unicyclist gets further and further into the background as the rop breaks, then as it breaks, he disappears. Cycling into infinity. :D

... That would actually be quite cool.  I'd have to change my opinion of the art if they did that.

What's interesting is that in the post your fan-made artwork thread, someone created what would be on the other side of BC&SL's door. And on the other side there's a clown standing on a ball. The question is: How the hell did he know about the clown?

ScioPath

IMO, The artwork would have been better if there was a hot air balloon in the background with the symbol instead of the plane. As I said before in the facebook chat, the plane looks gimmicky and out of place.

Here's an idea.  Maybe it's artwork from the inside of the album or the back cover.  I gotta think they would announce it's the cover art if that's what it was.
Heh, that's a good point. I hope you're right! :P

.. Part of me feels we're seeing the cover art though

Steve Johnson

It's OK, except for the Majesty logo being plonked on the tailplane so amateurishly. Shoddy job. Syme has fixed up other DT covers between public unveiling and finished product (MS Paint Octavarium strings, anyone?); hopefully this one will be the same and he'll do it properly before I buy it.

Listen dude, you seem like an ok guy, but seriously, why do you have to white knight every single post? Zbomber doesn't think they are all that great. I get that it makes for discussion but you've been here less than a day and most of your 80 posts have been to the effect "How can you disagree with anything DT is done? You are a bad person because of it."

It's not very metal and certainly not very Roadrunner. It's very 70s prog.

this is why alot of people like it

everything doesnt need to be 'metal'

This.

but it will be marketted at the Metal market. At least if they want to sell any.

So if an album cover isn't made to appeal to a certain market it's "piss-poor"? Well, then that's just, like, your opinion, man.

JaredWard

Not as good as BC&SL imo. but I dig it because it's simple.

Metabog

I like it way more than SC and BCSL. It's great imo.

DejaVu

You guys are so picky, I like the art. It's very subtle, and I think it explains the feel of the album quite well. And I'm a fan of the tight rope/unicycle metaphor, it's very surreal, and it could indicate the fact that DT are still going sky high, I'm worried about the wearing of the rope on the left though. I also love the bright colours, quite a dramatic change from the past two albums, this definately shows us this album will be far from 'dark' unlike BC&SL.

I think this will be one of the easier albums by DT to listen to, I've always found any of the pre-TOT really easy to pick up and listen to often, so this will be nice if it lives up to this. ;D
